Keyboards on laptops are crap for sure, but I have an old IBM 600 and it has the best keyboard I have ever typed on. I even prefer it to most desktop keyboards. It's comfortable, stable, tactile, has good depth and is quiet - no loud clicks, more a deadened sound. It's beautiful. I'm inclined to think is a IBM ThinkPad trait from my experience.
