Fair point. And since Facebook is on the government's naughty list, they'll face some extra scrutiny and perhaps HUD is bending the meaning of a regulation. You know like everyone commits three felonies/day. Nothing happens to you until you show up on the government radar and they decide to punish you. This isn't a Trump thing either. I'm thinking about what happened to Gibson guitar during the last administration.

Yes, this tool could be used to discriminate. But that's the point of the tool. If you are selling women's jeans it's perfectly legal to target a particular audience, i.e. women. Do they have any example of using this tool to illegally discriminate against a protected class? If so, file a lawsuit. Otherwise, stop speculating about what it could be used for.

The housing market must abide by the Fair Housing Act, a federal law which HUD is tasked with making and enforcing regulations. There is no equivalent in the woman jeans market.

  3. From this article it seems that stakeholders are the shareholders plus employees and local residents:

What defines a local resident - state, county, or city? Maybe some gerrymandered "company district". There is so much room for graft and corruption here. I don't trust Progressives like Warren to implement it fairly if she were in control. I wouldn't trust Conservatives either. This whole thing stinks of appropriation of private property.

  4. Aye! The mark of today's moron: "Venezuela! Nuffsaid!!" Fucking idiots....

It works doesn't it? Every time someone you consider a moron uses that logic, you have a conniption. Must be hitting a nerve.

  5. You think this is brilliant?! Copied from reason.com:

Warren’s “Accountable Capitalism Act” would require that corporations that earn more than $1 billion in revenue a year (note “revenue,” not “profits”) would need a federal “charter” in order to operate. This charter would obligate these companies to consider all “stakeholders,” not just shareholders, when making decisions. The bill would also require these corporations to permit employees to elect 40 percent of the company’s board of directors; a super majority of 75 percent of directors and shareholders would have to approve political donations. (Gee, I wonder if somebody will propose something similar for unions?) Shareholders would be permitted to sue the company if they felt its actions were driven purely by profit and did not reflect the desires of its many “stakeholders.”

Lots of vague sounding language in there. Who/what defines what a stakeholder is and how they "feel" about profits. Sounds terrifying to me. What if Donald trump proposed this. How would you feel about that? Would you agree whom he named as stakeholders and how they should feel about profits?

  6. Thank you for posting, Miss Ocasio-Cortez. I see that your degree in economics and international relations has served you well.

Why are you so threatened by a woman who actually cares about representing constituents? Could it be that you are afraid she might actually be on to something? The voters in her district certainly seem to think so.

It's amazing how when a woman comes to the fore, wanting to make government work for the common person, some people lose their fucking minds.

Come on, where's your sense of humor. I thought that post was funny - not nearly as funny as the grandparent post though. And there's a sliver of truth to it. Miss Ocasio-Cortez response to questions recently makes one wonder if she got anything out of those college degrees.

I give her big kudos for beating the 10-term incumbent in the primary. I predict that she'll lose in the general election to the same guy as he's running in a different party.

Here we go again comparing Venezuela with free capitalist countries. Technically Venezuela is capitalist too but no one wants to invest there because the socialist government will steal the capital and give it to the "poor". Anything left in private hands is choked by centrally dictated price controls. Market forces have been distorted by the government. It's not possible to make money (unless you are in the ruling elite). That's why you have bread lines and no toilet paper. It's unfortunate for the people living there, but thank God Venezuela happened. It's been a huge thorn in the sides to useful idiots in the US that want heaping doses of socialism here.

Colleges can charge whatever they want for a gender studies degree. But the student will not be able to borrow as much from the government to get it. Maybe they can find other sources of loans (from the college itself maybe?), negotiate tuition, get a sugar-daddy, whatever. If it's so hard to secure funding, maybe the cost will come down or maybe even go away because it's stupid useless degree only gender studies professors can make any money with. Taxpayers win too because they are no longer subsidizing these big loans with high default rates.

we've got a big problem with getting Primary Care Physicians. They don't earn a lot, especially if they've got their own practice. A big part of that it our crap insurance system that fights against paying them every step of the way, but given our political environment switching to a single payer system isn't going to happen any time soon.

You think insurance payments to doctors are crap now, just wait for Medicare for All. Low reimbursement rates for procedures, long delays for payments, and a bureaucratic minefield of regulations. That's what Medicare is right now, and I know because I'm experiencing it. When everyone is on it, it will just get worse because federal outlays will be enormous and the government will work really hard to reduce costs.

I'd rather see student loans be a function earnings potential. You can borrow more if you are a STEM major in good standing for example.

  12. It's not worth $200. If you bought it for $200, the government is going to come along and asses it for $1B and gleefully give you the property tax bill. You and I cannot afford that nor the lawyers to contest it. The government evicts all the Apple employees and auctions off the property. From the proceeds, they take their back taxes, late penalties, and fees out. You get anything that's left.

That's just the local government. Who knows what the IRS is gonna do. Probably tax you on the difference between the auction price and $200.

  14. And because you have no connections, the government will send you a $50 million property tax bill payable in 30 days. What then? You'd better get in touch with fluffnut to find out how government works :-)
