Spam is commercialism, marketing, intrusive and often dis-honest.
There is a major difference between banning political opinions and banning annoying/offending advertisment. Especially when it is targeting your cellular phone.
So while it may be "speech", it is fairly obvious that it is unwanted speech. If you can't stop unwanted speech by conventional means, you have to act agressive.
I find it somehow difficult to treat spam as freedom of speech.
Freedom of speech is a political value, and exploiting it for commericial use is anyway a bad thing. Its not freedom of screaming, and SMS spam would be that intrusive. Intrusive, unwanted and purely commercial or even hustling. Is really the freedom of speech going to protect that?
Seeing how much power the RIAA and MPAA has over American citicens is kinda wicked. The fact that your goverment allows the industry to rule you, and leaves you only the freedom to get a laywer, seems utterly uninspiring.
And you would think American law only applied to Americans? I think that the DeCSS where a Norwegian 13/14-year old boy was wanted to show up in a California court?
What is pure greed, is evil. And what is evil, is not to be given power.
The DCMA must be the most f***ed up law ever to take residence in a civilized country.
As a non-US resident (Im from Norway) just reading about the DCMA is more than I need to feel disgusted.
I really ain't my problem, but I can NOT see how you guys who live there, actually accepts the legal limitations which comes as a result of this law.
And I think it's your freaking responsibility to take it out before some world leaders starts going "Thats a good idea". You wouldn't wan't to be blamed for another major legal decease infecting our planet?
So if you were running a business, you WOULD take mail sent from hotmail, msn or yahoo serious?
My first thing, if I started a busniness, would be blocking mail from these domains as well!
Like I do now. Blocking entire asia seems like a good idea to ME (and now me only) anyhow. I dont know people there, and if it'll reduce SPAM I will.
I got 50 gigs. I freak out if I ever drop below 10 (true).
I like to have the ability to store uncompressed music, in many channels. I'm a musician, and I -never- ever compress any sound until mastering is done. Thats at least 250 megs pr. master.
Still that's pretty small size. When you rip a DVD, it's fairly common to just decrypt the data and store it on your disc. Could be 5-6 GBs. Not that you need to, but it's practical.
And if I want to borrow a DVD, and the guy is short on time, I got space to make a copy! How neat:)
If you should choose to compress this further on, to DivX on a 2CD setup, you should at least account for all compressed data twice before being done.
So one DVD rip could easily use 10 gigs. And ofcourse we're all lazy. "Ill encode it later". So all of a sudden you need 10 gigs more.
And this is just work. You need entertainment. All those MP3s, MPGs and AVI files... Using a 100 gigs isn't really a man's job. It's a lazy man's job. If he were effective, he would'a found a way to use less:)
Trezor
Sad and sadly needless to say... you're right.
Gimme more space, and I'll find a way to use it. If not now, give me (and my friends at microsoft:) some time.
If not humans, at least men tend to be turned on by size. Huge sizes!
Hey! DivX at 1.5 Mbps (double CDencoded) with 448 kbps AC3 is so close to MPEG2 that it doesnt really matter. I for once can't see the difference. And you cant hear any difference, because you use the original DVD audiostream.
You get a -hell- lot more quality into the flicks buy doing a double cd. That's the only way I bother doing it anyway.
So you will prolly need just 75 gigs to achieve full quality:)
It's call safeguarding. If people can't be entirely certain of what you just said, they can't feel offended.
It's a strategic approach.
Pissed people -> Bad
Content -> Ok
Happy -> Ok
My guess is that they want more people to be content, than a few getting pissed.
Did I really need to post this... I gotta be bored.

Sorry boy! Even morons should be appologized for typos.
And beeing a moron and a foreigner not memorizing every single shortened law-name in the o-holy US of A is quite a difference.
DMCA. Digital Millenium Copyright Act
I'll try to memorize it properly this time :)
