It reminds me of a minor space race battle, the battle to write in space. The US spent millions of dollars to make a pressurized nitrogen pen that could write in space. The Soviets used a $0.05 pencil. Go figure.

The reason Firefox is more secure is because when an exploit is found it's fixed, with IE it takes a long time. Last year Firefox was vulnerable to exploits for 9 days while "Internet Explorer Unsafe for 284 Days in 2006."
