  1. Ideas are patented, not code on Pop-Under Ads Patented · · Score: 2, Informative
Are two lines of javascript worthy of a patent?"

You can patent an idea so it doesn't matter how little code it takes to implement the idea.

When you think about it, aren't pop-unders better than pop-overs? They're all bad, but we can't escape advertising without moving to dictatorial establishments.

  2. My Boss Took the Whole Dept. Out for Star Wars on So Did the Hordes Really Skip out for Episode 2? · · Score: 1

Our dept. manager paid $4.25 x 30 employees to take the Help Desk dept. at our Fortune 500 company out for the 4PM showing on Thursday. And believe it or not, there were actually some Help Desk agents who turned the tickets down! We're obviously hiring the wrong kind of geeks.

So, did folks have a hard time reaching the IT Help Desk? I'm not answering that one. : )

We had to give away the extra tickets to folks in other departments... at least we could find some geeks in the server department.

You can say what you want about the dialog, I loved the film. Can't wait for Ep. III. Only... Where's Tarkin? If he's a crusty old man in Ep. IV, we should have seen him as a middle aged man in this one.

  3. The Wired article is a fake. on Mac OS X Slow for Web Browsing? · · Score: 1

Two red flags jump out at me when reading the Wired article (did any of you read it, or did you just join the Slashdot discussion already in progress):

    1. "I'm tired of seeing the spinning wheel..."

-- When a page is taking forever to load (which doesn't happen that often) the IE logo in the top right spins. Wheel spinning is the OS working, not the app drawing on the screen.

    2. "Better than OS 9, which required users to pull the power plug and/or PULL THE BATTERY"

-- ?????? I've never had to pull the battery on ANY mac to reset anything. That's a ludicrous statement. This whole article appears intended to stir up a negative connotation in Windows users' minds about the Mac. Many of the statements in this article are intended to plant a seed of doubt in the public perceptions of OS X.

    Don't stand for it!
