I live in Ireland, and can confirm that he did win our national young scientist of the year award. He's been on a couple of Irish chat shows since but still hasn't mentioned even the basic concept behind how it works.
Knowing the quality of the competition, he would have still won if it was 6x slower just because he was sixteen!
Anyway he may be able to download pr0n 6x faster but he'll get a girlfriend 6x slower after winning that award.
