  1. Is there a TFA? on FBI Prioritizes Copyright Over Missing Persons · · Score: 1

Where is the news? Where is the stuff that matters?

  2. Progress on Geocities Shutting Down Today · · Score: 1

Back when we had dialup, we used Geocities. Now that we have 1000X faster broadband, we use Twitter. Progress.

  3. The similarity is uncanny on Measuring Real Time Public Opinion With Twitter · · Score: 1

Great, more and more people are beginning to believe that Twitter is brain flu! "The tool is still in its early stages, but eventually Mr. Dodds hopes that it could work similarly to Google Flu Trends, a Web tool that doubles as an early-warning system for flu outbreaks by detecting spikes in certain search terms."

  4. Sony should fight back on Microsoft Kicks Playstation2 out of CeBit. · · Score: 1

I don't see why they didn't put up a sign advertising the Playstation 2 with some of the following slogans:

"So good that Microsoft doesn't want you to see it!"

"Too much fun for Microsoft to handle!"

"We've been here for 3 years longer than the XBox, we have defined gaming for years, and now Microsoft wants to keep you from having a little fun..."

"MS: You can't handle the truth!"

These are just a few ideas, and sure they can lead to MS bashing, but I don't think that packing up and leaving is a very competitive approach. If they have a better product, why not make it a big deal? If they can't demo at CeBIT, why bother? After all, they presumably pay a fee to participate, and in exchange there should be some open discussion of the rights of the vendors.

I don't even play games anymore, but this whole debacle steams me. If MS had a problem, and they believed in their product, then they should have asked if it would be okay to start demoing their product as well. Instead, one can only infer that they regard the PS2 as a superior product. By the way... that seems to be a great endorsement for the PS2: Microsoft believes the PS2 is a superior product. Coool.... now I know which game system to get, if I ever get around to it.

    Cheers.

...do you discover a country when there are already people living there?

I think the answer is on this big internet message board that I discovered the other day. I'll tell you how to get there, but forever more, it shall be known as Itforica, as in "what's itfor?" a question everyone asks... Anyway, you might ask, how can one "discover" a big internet message board, when there are already people there... Let's not get recursive.

  6. MSNBC not subservient to MS? on Will CS Students Switch From Microsoft? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I am surprised - the mere fact that this article appears on MSNBC.com (*) at all seems to lend weight to the idea that MSNBC isn't a Microsoft propaganda machine. Maybe now, years after their debut, I will begin to take their news seriously - which I can't quite say for either parent company.

    Kudos.

(*) Yes, I realize that this article is from Newsweek, but MSNBC could have chosen not to reprint it.
