Nobody is forced to subsidize anyone, they are just forced to resell at fair prices. It is amazing how much people bash this mild antimonopoly provision.
The last mile problem is not being solved because cable and dsl are much less popular than everyone thought they would be.
People are not flocking to cable and DSL and communication companies are seeing little point in releasing something better.
It will not be legally binding because contracts for illegal acts are not enforced.
Also your senator might not cash any checks that look so obviously like bribes, because they may not want to risk falling into a media trap for a measily $1000.
The best thing to do is just make a small contribution, and mention that you make those contributions on a regular basis.
Then make another contribution every time the politician votes the way you want him to.
The cold war is over there is no need to keep repeating the bs propaganda stories.
The US was never asleep on in the space race. After ww2 they brought in all the nazi rocket scientists they could get their hands on (as did the russians).
The US was working hard on a satelite while the russians were working on sputnik. But as opposed to Sputnik it was meant to be a secret venture - the satelite was supposed to be a spy satelite.
The problem is that they already know the answer when making the simulation.
Simulations can only be based on certain assumptions about the way things work in the world. Once you already have the answer you can easily mold the assumtions in a way that neatly fits the answer.
The explosion may have been caused by a comet but i dont consider those simulations really convincing proof.
I am pretty certain that tesla studied physics or engineering in austria (i may be wrong about the country). thats where he invented his electric motor.
By the way he never hoped to get energy out of nothing. He was trying to put energy in an resonating EM wave inside the earth, and get it back from the earth's surface.
Tesla was a genius understood or not. Electricity as we know it and use it today is based on two tesla inventions - the modern electrical motor which is used to make all electricity (with minor exceptions) and for most moving electrical things; the second one was communication by em waves (radio).
The Tunguska explosion was not caused by an asteroid.
1) there was no crater 2) noone has been able to find any asteroid materials in the area. 3) plants in the area have been discovered to have mutated DNA.
It is quite clear to me that the Tunguska explosion was caused by a miscalculated experiment of the great eccentric inventor Nicola Tesla.
BTW the official theory is that the asteroid consisted of nothing but water, it flew down to close to the surface, and then it exploded. Thats as difficult to believe as the Tesla theory imo.
But doesnt it feel nice to know that wherever you are in this great country of ours you can turn on the radio and hear Rush Limbaughs voice.
(yes this was sarcasm)
Look at the internet boom. One of the reasons so much money was made on the net is because microsoft did note have the net under its control.
Pretty much every person that uses the net uses a computer.
Yet there never really was a consumer computer software boom, because microsoft was able to kill off and then assimilate any good application.
After a couple of companies got assimilated, people just stopped trying.
Now sure there some companies that were succesful with consumer software, but there was nothing like the excitement and glut of new companies of the internet era.
A previous slash dot story reported how this candidate for a california state position sent a bunch of spam to canadians,,becuase someone thought that the.ca their emails ended on stood for california.
uninformed voters are infinately better than self interested dictators.
Furthermore democracies genrally work especially if they concern something as trivial as what icann is supposed to do. Usually really uninformed voters will not vote and only the informed ones will, unless icann does something stupid or starts spending a lot of money, then every one will vote against them.
Maybe the people competent to make decisions about the structure of the internet is limited, but people that have domain names are competent enough to know when the ones making the decisions are fucking up.
Also ICANN is not really going with meritocracy either, they are choosing some self perpetuating form of government that ensures the current board members remain in power.
I dont think he or anybody else is seriously suggesting using a nuclear reactor engine to get off the ground.
That cannot be done safely. Readiation shields are too heavy, and the exhust will be more than "slitly radioactive", and a lot of it will be released very close to the ground.
What he is suggesting is using the nuclear engine in space, so yes there will be plenty of rocket fuel while the rocket is leaving the earth. So an explosion is almost certain if the whole thing hits the ground.
Even if the rocket manages to separate its rocket fuel before crashing, having so much radioactive material crash at high speed is just not safe.
A nuclear rocket engine will not be low pressure. Its true current nuclear reactors are, but the rocket engine cannot be if it is to fullfill its promise of high efficiency. The whole idea of "a nuclear engine is more efficient than a conventional engine" rests on the fact that a nuclear engine should be able to shoot off water vapors at a much higher speed.
So please tell me where and how was I being dishonest. Notice how when i called the writer dishonest I did not resort to silly personal attacks, but clearly showed how he was misleading his readers.
And if you accuse someone of having spelling errors, then be really careful you don't have them either because then you just look like an ass.
There are many places where you can put those windmills without cutting down trees.
There are many places u can put solar panels.
Sorry but there are so many more environmentally friendly powersources.
It is really annoying when some one arguing from authority (i am a rocket scientist, listen to me) gives you misleading information.
Nuclear engines are much more dangerous than chemical ones.
If a chemical rocket develops problems on ascent ground control push a button and blow it up.
What if that rocket has a shitload of uranium or plutonium on board?
We have sent nuclear material up in rockets withsome nuclear powered stelites but they have a really negligable ammount of radiactive stuff in them, compared with what is needed for a mission to mars.
And if you think that rockets do not blow up on ascent any more you have not seen NASA's record recently.
So there you have it - thats a risk that he did not mention although it is a very relevant factor. Now you may say - the risk is not that great, or it is worth it, but it should have been mentioned in an honest article.
And also the thing he said about getting energy from space is such BS. If he knows as much about nuclear power as he pretends to he should know that we have enough uranium to give us energy for a loooong time and nuclear powerplants are much safer than nuclear rockets.
We will run out of bandwidth and bandwidth will become expensive, and telcos will make a lot of money....
Wait I know, I will buy lots of telco stock!!!
Some telco executive got himself a good piece of fud, but he forgot one thing - all the idiots lost their money during the dot com boom.
I mean digging wholes and putting fiber in is supposed to be the hard part.

If Acclaim was able to put their adds on gravestones they wouldnt get much benefit out of it.
People that go to graves are usually not young and even if they are they usually associate the experience with sad feelings.
Who would want to be reminded of that when playing a game?
Thats one of those marketing tricks, where the purpose of the whole excercise is to get denied and get in the papers.
is the mouse wheel. They did come up with that right?

Its not really a dificult legal issue. It is simple statutory interpretation.
I really doubt that the Supreme court will take this.
