For disposable email accounts (for site registrations etc), take a look at Mailinator. It offers automatically generated mailboxen, which are deleted after a few hours.

Perhaps the ease with which MTAs could cut off CAs (like cutting off domains) would help give incentive to ISPs (or whoever is the PCA) to crack down on their customer base

Wait just a second there... A lot of the spam that finds it's way to my inbox comes from hotmail accounts. Quite a few of my genuine mail comes from hotmail accounts.

Some ISP's are sooo large that no-one would dare block them. Which means these ISP's have little incentive to do anything about the miss-use of their facilities. Which means spam continues.

And, while we're at it, why not assign each individual a phone number that they keep for life, no matter where they move, like a domain name? I'd imagine that modern telco equipment could support this by now.

It's called a cellular phone. You can take it wherever you want :)

  8. Tivo-like? on TiVo-Like Devices for Radio? · · Score: 1

The problem you'll have in trying to make it a Tivo-like unit is the acquiring and providing of accurate listings for all the small radio stations (as well as the larger ones!). A Tivo can only operate as it does (all the clever automatic recording of other programmes you might like) because it has a well-maintained, categorised listings database.

The 2.0.x Win32 binaries available diectly from apache are only available in a no-ssl format. SSL for me is pretty important functionality, but I haven't been able to compile my own under win32. I agree the £1.30 price tag is a bit steep, but as they are mainly found in service stations, i guess they are mainly aimed at "Road-warriors", who a) can afford the price tag b) are _ALWAYS_ in a hurry!

Isn't it a bit dogey just grabbing and installing a binary (rpm) from an untrusted source (ie you) for security software like SSH ? I'll get my source code from a reputable mirror and compile it myself thanks.
You might want to check the version of SSH running on that mirror before downloading :p
  12. Business? on MusicCity's Morpheus violating GPL · · Score: 1

Now Morpheus is based on GPL software, how do they plan to make money from it?

Surely they can do nothing to stop anyone from re-distributing an ad-free, spyware-free version of the Morpheus client?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought the ads were their only *real* source of income??
