in term of performances HFS+ is better than UFS. In fact, from the quick benches I've done with my FreeBSD's, HFS+ is faster than UFS, and slower than UFS+softupdates (witch is approximatively equivalent to ext2 FS in term of read-write perf.).
Ones should definitively choose HFS+ for OSX, a secondary partition using UFS can be a good idea for UN*X addict, but is absolutely useless for everyday desktop use.
I'm affraid the rsync 2.5.2 Apple just released for OSX is still vulnerable...
the FreeBSD-SN-02:01 Security Notice reads this :
Port name: rsync Affected: versions < rsync-2.5.4 Status: Fixed. Incorrect group privilege handling, zlib double-free bug. URL:http://online.securityfocus.com/bid/4285 URL:http://www.rsync.org/
so what ? is MacOSX immune to the "Incorrect group privilege handling" bug of rsync < 2.5.4 or does Apple just released a buggy sec. update ? This bug appears to be known for 3 weeks now...
here is the reply from GVS about empty rack case for G4 systems : - - -
Thank you for you interest.
Unfortunately because of warranty and prices that will involve you do the conversion and other parts such as controller, restart and raiser cards.
For a limited time we are offering the conversion of you current G4 to GVS 9000 2U or 4U system for $499.00. - - -
I don't know the cost of a trans-atlantic shipping for a G4 (+ insurance), but I guess it's chipper to sale my current G4 on the 2nd hand market here in France and to buy a brand new rackmounted dual-G4 from GVS
now we are sure a bi-G4 can sit into a 2U rack case, does anybody can tell if this kind of compliant rack case is available somewhere ? I mailed GVS but I got no reply for the moment.
