That's actually quite a good idea. It would be nice though if you can at least put in the hardware to load the image fast enough. To me it sounds like some boss loves to waste time and energy rather than spend money on hardware.
You're right about Pluto not being a planet (obviously). The annoyance with me (as a layperson) started when these volatile definitions of plutoid, dwarf planet, kbo started to change way too often.
It should be quite obvious to you that I have no expertise to bring to this discussion, but I have been trying to at least use the right words when I am talking about rocks flying through our solar system. When the right words are changing all the time it becomes hard to keep up. I would prefer experts to finalize the discussion to a point where there is consensus among them and only then put forward the news.
A natural analogy for me is the dutch spelling which has been defined in law and changed by the government 3 (maybe more?) times now since I started middle school. Many dutch practitioners of my generation just gave up on spelling, which is a shame. (maybe bringing up spelling isn't the smartest move...)
It is actually a joke, and actually not mine. But here goes.
If you decide to show 0 decimals in your output,
1.4 is printed as 1, but 1.4+1.4 will be printed as 3. Writing the code is left as an exercise to the reader. I could try and come up with more examples, but basically you shouldn't take things too seriously.
I agree with the principle of dogma vs. science, but I don't think this is the best example. It doesn't do well for credibility if you keep changing your mind based on unstable definitions and pretend it to be news each time you've tweaked one of them.
There is no particular scientific benefit in calling something either a planetoid or a dwarf planet. It's all a matter of opinion it seems to me. So I understand the annoyance.
40h means you can never be required to be there more than 9 hours a day (for 5 days a week) and you can never be required to hold your water, not get a coffee if you like to, lunch... If you want to take lunch for 2 hours people are going to complain of course. Just be reasonable.
If we would start passing legislation randomly to teach unproven theories that "can be a very powerful idea when taught..." there would soon be no time left to teach stuff that actually matters like reading and math.
If some teacher decides to tell his class the concepts of ID I wouldn't be worried. Children hear bs all the time, they should learn how to filter.
Over 40 hours a week should not be 'expected', it should only be required for emergencies and last minute pushes on big deadlines
Please understand that emergencies and last minute pushes on big deadlines are to be expected at all times. No overtime means no overtime. If you want to do a good job at leading a team, make it a rule without exceptions.
As an employer, don't pay for overtime, don't ask for overtime and don't allow overtime. It will ruin quality and cost you more.
I used to work at one of the big consulting firms and the following pattern was almost a rule:
1. not finished, stay late
2. come in late or unrested
3. be less productive, deliver poor quality
4. not finished after staying late
If you see that pattern, stop it at once and follow these simple rules:
1. everybody is on time each day
2. no working after 6
3. max 40 hours a week
Interesting, can you be more specific (boot times in seconds, definition of modest)?
I'm sure we can do better than about a minute? That's more than it takes to boot up an EEE...

But there are so many things to worry about. The point is to first do some research and then tell the general public to worry.

hehe, you just made me snicker sir.
Seriously... is this a joke? What happened to the times that we named planets after gods? Oh wait.
a few choose OS X or Solaris, but for most people, they use Linux.
Check out the market share of OS X vs Linux. OS X is (still) a whopping 900% ahead.
Don't you know [yadayada] I know that 1+1=2, and many other facts that I can prove
They took our JOBS!
I am aware of Occams razor. I was merely using sarcasm to refute ancestor.
yes, that is indeed on the wikipage. thanks for getting the point.

Some things are better left untouched.

Why shouldn't we believe there is a God?
"The first ten million years, they we're the worst. The second ten million years, they we're the worst too. The third ..."
Are people still using 1 based? otherwise it would be at least twice as fast, which is nice, but not impressive in comparison to xml.
I personally find mouth-to-ear a much more comfortable way to transfer ideas, but whatever works for you, just keep your distance.
