This just seems like a sky-is-falling article that doesn't take into consideration the massive growth of the online and casual markets, as well as the huge growth of portable.

I can't think of one game that did all of those before Halo, but there where plenty of other FPS that used one or many of those features.
Halo just happens to implement them all relatively well and with a clean design, which is where it's sucess comes from.
