  1. Washington University on Collecting Stardust · · Score: 1

i'm sure i'm the thirty-seventh person to point
this out, but the University of Washington is in
Washington, and Washington University is in St.
Louis. this article is refering the Washington
University, which is located in St. Louis, MO.

  2. exactly what i was going to say. on Online Marketing for an Indie Band? · · Score: 0, Flamebait

the fact that you're not TEARING up the charts has nothing to do with the labels and everything to do with your sound. you are playing a style of music that had a fleeting moment of popularity over the past year or two, but is fading faster than the ska craze of the mid 90s.

my point is that it's just asinine to imply that this band is being looked over because they are not "a pretty boy band," when the band sounds like the only OTHER dominate sound on the radio for the time being - so called "nu metal" or "hardnow."

i've toured the country dozens of times, and am leaving in a few weeks for still another national tour. in almost every city i visit see fun, interesting, original, exciting new bands that will never, ever sign to a major label. most will be lucky if they scrounge up the money to press a CD that will end up in $1 bins across town in a year. the fact that your band has had even moderate success is a blessing. you should continue to work hard and earn fans, but QUIT ACTING LIKE THE WORLD OWES YOUR MEDICORE BAND SOMETHING.

  3. Dreamcast Gets No Love, As Always. on MAME Ported to (Chipped) Xbox · · Score: 4, Informative

I don't know why the DC Emulation scene seemingly gets no respect or credit in the "geek" community, considering the amazingly amount of work that's been put into various types of emulation. Granted, it's considered a "dead" system, but the technology is still there and still relatively current. At present, a $50 Dreamcast can successfully emulate MAME, NES (the best console emulation i've ever seen), Master System, Gameboy, amongst others. DreamSNES is working on SNES games, and is making some serious headway (they're running at about 88% speed, now), and there are still other emulation projects on the horizon, plus a batch of decent-and-getting-better homebrew games.

I think that person would be ill-advised to acquire and Xbox for $200, spend however much on a modchip, in the process voiding their warrenty, in order that they play MAME, when a console that can be picked up for $50 and under can do the same thing. i recommend anyone visit DC Emulation if they are interested.

  4. "premium Japanese instruments"??!@#? on Star Wars Collector.....Guitars? · · Score: 1

These guitars are practically driftwood. And calling this a "revolutionary process" is putting it liberally - this kind of technology has existed since the early 90s, and has been used on guitars in the past (unfortunately). I love Star Wars, but turning my guitar into a Tuskin Raider isn't cool.

This "article" reads like a press-release, and so it seems obvious to be that this story was submitted by someone directly involved with Fernandes Guitars (god have mercy on their soul). does Slashdot always let companies promote their products in this manner? They should be getting paid for this.
