Amazingly insightful post. Thanks, I really appreciate people that take the time to sort out coherent thoughts and put them into words. We need more of this.

VERY well-said, Mad-cat. A recent event involving the RCMP's inappropriate behaviour is getting a lot of attention these days.

FOUR(!) fit-for-service officers needed to use a Taser against one unruly individual? Were they afraid of getting their facial make-up smeared in an actual physical confrontation?

The RCMP *must* apologize (and compensate) for this sad event or risk losing worldwide respect.

To my mind, neither of these pursuits (sport, music) would be any the worse from having the business people removed from their operations.

It is becoming easier and easier to cut out the middleman for many business endeavours due to computers. This is inevitable and a good thing, but think about the resulting unemployment! What follow-on, 1/10th the pay job could these executives be suited (oops, sorry, my post preview made me notice the pun but I'll leave it there) to? Might they assemble and stage a Million Moron March on Washington threatening with raised Crackberries, waving printouts of PowerPoint presentations and pretending to call "their people"?

I am afraid for the future, we are all doomed.

perhaps we should produce our own power and fuel domestically rather than rely on fickle foreign sources. In the past, this hasn't been a strong enough inducement, but with Opec restricting production to drive up price, we might be reconsidering that position.

Actually, these days, this is possible and relatively easy to do with the web and a (likely free, basic) 3D CAD viewer program installed on the user's computer. We do this regularly with process plant design reviews for project participants who are unable to interpret/understand 2D "blueprints".
