  1. Re:evidence for this on Telemarketers Sue to Block Do-Not-Call List · · Score: 1

Excuse if I sound like a smug git, but when I moved house 16 months ago as soon as I had the address & tel no I registered them as above and have yet to receive any post or calls I didn't know about. The only advertising post I get is from companies I have said yes to explicitly on order forms & the like. R.e. the Opt-in argument, it would never work because no-one wants these calls/letters enough to register for them (i.e, no-one would be bothered enough to register). Telemarketers would highlight this fact after x months and the process would be thrown out as being equivalent to a ban on telemarketing. Opt-out works in the UK and is fair as long as people know how to sign up if they want to.

Even better - Deep Blue vs. Deep Junior playing Chess using Robot Wars robots to destroy the taken pieces. If nothing else, the ratings for the games would soar.

I remember playing a couple of friends at a Risk-like game (can't remember the title) where I was about to be nuked out of the game, and his plus my nukes (as I had the chance to retaliate before dying) wouldn't be enough to cause a nuclear winter killing everyone and causing a stalemate. I instead opted to nuke the third (innocent) player to force him to launch his nukes as well to tie the game. They both exploded at the idea and said I wasn't playing fair, though the rules didn't say I couldn't do that. They were right of course, but whilst they spent 20 mins checking the rules and shouting/cursing me, I was laughing my arse off for the whole time. Just thought it'd be funny to do that to a computer opponent to see how it reacts. It wouldn't work for Chess, but I'm sure other games would work where the human player isn't trying to win just to see how the computer copes.

Totally fair comment on the cost issue. I also agree that when the 1GB comes out the space issue will (should) be a bit irrelevant.

I agree that if you just want to check that the photo is in focus/make some minor tweaks before sending it off, the Clie is most definitely up to the job.

I can't really see a way around this viewing problem, though, as to view an image at a decent size (at least 7 x 5 inch), you need a screen of that size, which precludes a PDA before you start. If you make the screen big enough, it's now a tablet instead of a PDA.

It's a pity as someone earlier in this said that camera specs have far outpaced screen specs, but even if they could make a Clie-sized PDA with an XGA screen, my eyes wouldn't be able to make the detail out anyway! Here's to hologram units!
