I know things are heating up but really I remember 100+ temperatures when I was in my teens some 4 decades ago. A rise of 2 or 3 degrees since the 70's is hardly going to make asphalt flow like melted butter. Yes, I know it has serious implications for human existence on the planet but this kind of kooky sensationalism is what give climate change prophets such a bad name.
Happiness is an interesting and complex issue. A lot of it is about perception but really, once you have enough to eat, adequate shelter and a few modern amenities the rest is just window dressing. I know there are a lot of rich people who seem to be miserable.
Well, I'm Southern Baptist but I have been to a few Catholic services with friends. A little different to what I'm used to. I think I'd like to attend a Jewish service once just to see how they worship. I've seen tons of pictures of Muslims bowing towards Mecca but I think it'd be interesting to attend an actual service. The few Muslims I've known were nothing like the kooks you see on TV.
Marriage is a joke nowadays anyway. I think it's time for the Government to just get out of the practice entirely. If 2, 3, 5, or 99 people want to call themselves married then fine, whatever. It's become a joke anyway. People marry "forever" then 6 days later they're humping someone else and getting a divorce. In modern society it's become a pointless joke. The State should give it up and get out of the business. Let people call themselves husband and wife or buddy and buddy or whatever they want to. I don't care if they marry a fire hydrant just leave the State out of it and let's move on to real problems like the trillions of dollars of debt we're rolling up.
I think you're limited by your experience. I realize the technology isn't there yet but it's coming someday maybe in the next decade even. I know how you feel actually as I like things the way they have always been also. Heck, I still use a 3 button non-scroll mouse because it's what I've used since 1991. (not the same one of course)
You can't imagine an environment where you tell the computer to "create a spreadsheet showing all the sales figures for the year divided by month and.......blah, blah, blah. I mean the possibilities are endless.
The way I look at it, the police have video cameras in cars and you routinely see traffic stop and arrest footage from these cameras on tv shows such as Cops. Turnabout is fair play.
Just because there is no evidence doesn't mean it's not a fact. It's simply unproven. Kind of what is meant by "anything is possible." Unlikely maybe, but possible.
I don't see any of that in local churches. That's more of a TV Evangelist thing. More of what I hear in my local church is how blessed we are. If you look at it critically the poor in America often live better than the Nobility did in the middle ages. It's all a case of perspective. I have a middle class life, between my wife and myself we make about 100K a year. It's not a tremendous amount but yet I own two vehicles, a 2000 square foot house that is comfortably heated and cooled. I have cable tv and internet for entertainment and have never missed a meal except by choice. It's a very comfortable lifestyle and yet so many who live as I do complain and whine about what they don't have. It's human nature I guess to always want more and more. I'd like more myself, I'm only human but I don't forget to be thankful for all I've been blessed with. Even more important is the freedom I enjoy to live my life as I please. The only limitations I have on my success is my own ability and initiative. I could no doubt have done better but maybe the fact that I am so comfortable limits my drive to strive for more.
It might be that Maemo just feels more familiar to me. It's more of a menu driven atmosphere and I began computing on the C64 back in 1983 when everything was menu driven so I'm totally at home in that type of environment. Still I think a menu driven type of interface is more efficient on such a small device. I noticed that a friend's iPad seemed better but then it's a 10" screen. Overall though Android seems to work well enough. I'd be interested in seeing your app when you publish it.
Maybe when you can talk to it and the speech is instantly translated into text things might move along. I look at a future like Star Trek, you go "Oh, computer," into thin air and the computer answers "Yes." Then you instruct it on what to do. Then, maybe the age of the PC will be over.
Oh yes! My favorite pet peeve. 1366X768 sucks....no, it swallows. I bought a dell laptop with that resolution and after a month I just got rid of it. I looked for a replacement and finally wound up getting a used D630 that had 1440X900 screen. An older laptop with a much better screen than the new ones. The only thing the 1366x768 screen was good for was watching videos. For web pages or documents I sat it on the end and rotated the view so it was at least usable. I'll never buy another screen like that.
I'm a grandparent and I've unloaded over 2 thousand books. All my paperbacks went to the Friends of the Library sale. I kept my Hardbacks but really they're just for display. I have all my books stored on a tiny 32 gigabyte micro SD card in my Samsung 5" Galaxy Media Player. FBreader works wonderfully on it. Before this device I had a Nokia N800 that I liked but when I broke the screen I bought the Samsung for about half what I paid for the Nokia and it does so much more. I do miss Maemo as an operating system but Android works well enough for a media player. I use a Mac Mini however to convert videos and burn DVD's and of course to handle office work. I think the tablets and phones of today will merge into a network that includes workstations. Hell, it's already here.
They exist. I've got a cheapo Samsung phone from Walmart using their Straightalk service. 1000 anytime minutes for $30 a month. It works everywhere and I don't have to charge it every 6 hours.
I can't defend Apple's actions but then I don't need to. What they do is legal. The problem is the system. There will always be the Microsofts, Apples and Oracles of the world but giving them this kind of power is beyond stupid. If it wasn't Apple it would be someone else.
It's not 3D! I've seen it, it's shit. Lot's of money for a shitty gimic.
Idiot. It's not theft. Cary Sherman? Is that you hiding as an AC?

Unlike rational and reasonable people like Steve Ballmer or Steven Jobs?
I am entitled to pursue happiness however.

Really? Are you poor?

That's the one thing I saw that didn't look like a good idea. If something were to happen there might be some severe repercussions from that.
Really now. I actually prefer cops to have a sense of humor. Without it they burn out quickly.

Paperless office! Man, that is so 80's.
The beauty of it is you can choose what you want, or have it all!
