  1. of pro-consumer rules (Net Neutrality, restrictions on pay day lenders, Dodd-Frank, and now this) that are being stripped clean. Is anyone on this forum in favor of all this? If not, is anyone going to change how they vote in the coming elections? Because if not it doesn't matter one wit.

    our Senate and Electoral colleges were purpose built to protect the interests of a few wealthy landowners. The political parties are just natural outgrowths of that system. What's needed is a parliamentary system that gives everybody who gets x% of the vote some power. That and compulsory voting. If voting was mandatory people couldn't get away with voter suppression.

    People _want_ the government to step in and help them. What they do _not_ want is for the gov't to step in and help anyone else. It doesn't work like that. Either nobody gets left behind or everybody does.

  5. if anything you need to encourage them. Once people hit a certain amount of wealth they're content to have 1-2 children. Of course, that only happens if you hit that wealth limit (and if you don't have the Elephant in the room, religion, forcing people to spit out kids.     It's about having the power of life or death by controlling access to food, shelter and medical care. It's about power, not things.

    Yes, I know that's counter-intuitive. Lots of things are. It's difficult to think like a truly Rich person (e.g. a 1% or a .1%) when you're part of the working class.

    Violence isn't going to work anymore. If you want freedom you have to take care of your working class _before_ they turn to a militant strong man. So far we are not doing a good job of that.     I'd rather see him stumping on Medicare for All than basic income though.

    it can be blinding. It's called "Monsoon" weather. If you've never driven in it it's hard to explain. You can't see 6-8 feet in front of you. Like a white out but with water. Not sure if that's what happened here. I've been stuck driving in Monsoon rain a few times. I pull over as soon as I can and wait it out. It can be hard to do that with all the nut jobs trying to power through it.

    The woman was outside cross walks, so Uber will probably be in the right. Although IIRC you never have the right of way if it would cause an accident in Az.

    than explosives. A common argument is that if mass shooters couldn't get assault rifles they'd just use explosives. Believe it or not handling explosives is tricky. Even with access to the Internet and info on how to handle them you can still blow yourself to bits. Yeah, crock pot bombs are easy enough to make, but that mess in Boston had all of three victims. Compare that with the parkland shooting that killed 17 and injured the same.

    Trump is such a monumental failure of our Democracy that no one thing could have made it happen. It took a complete breakdown of this countries institutions to put a shmuck like Trump in the Whitehouse.

    for illegals. The reason they didn't want this is that if you could come here illegally and become a citizen everybody would. There's never be any incentive to come here legally. He then reneged on this promise. I don't know how I could make it any simpler.

    And you have to start somewhere. Single payer healthcare is a good place. Regulating Wall Street to prevent another market crash is another. Just because good ideas won't pass doesn't mean you throw up your hands and give up. You've surrendered to easily. Our problems _can_ be solved without relying on the invisible hand to save us. Actions speak louder than words. Go out there and vote Bernie (and the Justice Democrats, google the phrase) and you'll see those actions.

    You'd lose the views and the adverts sold on those things are bound to be profitable. If you're gullible enough to think the last two or three school shootings were false flag operations you're probably in the market for some expensive supplements, some gold, or a bucket of food for that shed you call a bunker.After all, there's a sucker born every minute.

    The way you stop this is funding schools, especially the liberal arts. e.g. reading. Critical thinking is a skill and like any skill it can be taught. You're not going do do that with STEM. If you're bright enough for STEM you're usually bright enough to figure out critical thinking on your own. There's a reason the well to do always insist on a solid liberal arts education for their kids. It's how you teach dumb people to think.

    a. Backed off on ending DACA and endorsed amnesty. Whatever your opinion (personally I think it'd be nuts to try and deport them at this point) of this it was core promise.

    b. Gave Carrier millions in subsidies to keep jobs that they promptly sent to Mexico as soon as nobody was looking.

    c. Expanding the number of H1-B & H2-B recipients, failed to repeal Obama's executive order allowing their spouses to work in this country.

    d. Did a $1.5 trillion tax cut where 80% of the benefits are for the 1%, the remaining 20% expire in 10 years and his party is already talking about ending Medicare & SS to pay for them (without him saying a word to contradict them).

    e. Backed down from Mexico paying for the wall, will have the American tax payer pay for it.

    f. Promised to drain swamp, but the same Goldman Sachs guys in charge that everybody does.

    I could go on and on, but these are the ones that stand out most. You can't even make the argument that he's just incompetent. He promised us he was the best. If he's a boob he lied about being smart. Trump lies. Realize it, switch the the Democratic party, vote in your primary and for fucks sake elect Bernie or another left winger this time. If you want a populist vote for a real one.

  23. on 4 consultancy firms. I'm pretty sure she got Rhomey'd. e.g. the firms thought they had an easy win so they pocketed the money and didn't campaign. The folks on the ground in the swing states didn't have any support. One guy in an important and competitive district was on tape complaining he only got one short visit from Barney Frank and nobody was going around distributing signs. Meanwhile on election day I had a guy driving around in one of those trucks with advertisements on the back for Trump.

    they voted for Trump because he ran as a populist. He promised them good jobs, healthcare and a future. Hilary promised them them nothing. At best slightly lower interest rates on their Student Loans.

    There's a ton of really desperate folks in swing states. Hilary called them the Blue Firewall and ignored them. Trump listened to them and told them what they wanted to hear. It doesn't matter that he was lying. There was a chance, however small, that he wasn't. They had nothing to lose.

    The real problem is America abandoned a significant portion of the working class to abject poverty. That's a terrible idea if you like stability. Large numbers of people (especially men) with nothing to lose are dangerous as hell.

    All Hilary had to do was take him seriously and campaign properly (or at all) in the swing states. Instead she wasted time in states like Az where she didn't have a prayer in hell of winning. She thought she was gonna get some sorta Reaganesque style super victory. Funny thing is there were two things that I kept hearing people say they didn't like about her: Cold & Arrogant. And boy, did she prove that right.

    Worst thing is the right wing corporate Dems haven't learned a damn thing and they're probably gonna run Hilary 2.0 (Kamala Harris). What they hell is the bloody point of voting for a Democrat who's gonna run things like a Republican?
