I don't know what unenlightened hell you live in, but in Texas, where I live, the law on this is quite clear. Under cover of darkness or in protection of life, limb and/or property, deadly force may be used. Happens all the time down here. I mean, how many people are just gonna bust into your house at 3am simply to say "hi!"? DOH!
