Sigh, "Royal Butler" is a job description whereas "Republican" assumes membership in a political party. I would argue that one cannot compare the two.

I'll repeat it again because you're slow: He's not a member of the Republican Party, therefore he is not a Republican. He may be a conservative, but not a Republican.

As for schill? Well, when that tag is attached to journalists on the left I'll accept it.

And just as cold here when it comes to press freedom. I write occasionally for the Ottawa Citizen. You should phone up the OC journo who was dragged into court and had her home raided to find out the sources for her stories.

Free speech protections in Canada are actually less reliable then they are in the U.S.

I'm rather unimpressed with Firefox today. The update button popped up this afternoon yet the update itself was dated Feb. 25. I realize they didn't want a mass stampede to their server but that means a heck of a lot of people were unprotected (and remain unprotected) if they don't habitually check /. or Mozilla.org to see if there are new versions available.

They greeted this security update better than Microsoft usually does...but not much better.

For a long time Russia had no terrorism until they went rampaging through their former republics (actually, that's not true, they experienced terrorism in the 1970s and 80s after invading Afghanistan). Those Chechen terrorists aren't in Russia because the Russians are the friendly bear. I hear Grozny is proof positive of that.

Don't get me wrong, I rather like the Russian approach to terrorist: no negotiating. Not a good thing if you're a hostage of course but it sends the right signal to the bad guys. You will die if you do things like this.

The present trend of warmer sea temperatures, which have risen by an average of half a degree Celsius (0.9F) over the past 40 years, can be explained only if greenhouse gas emissions are responsible, new research has revealed.

The results are so compelling that they should end controversy about the causes of climate change, one of the scientists who led the study said yesterday. Whew! Glad it's settled!

Well, except for the fact that there is wide disagreement on sea temperatures and whether they've risen. Whoops!

The arrogance of scientists and their reliance on computer models knows no bounds.
