That's funny, because I have the opposite experience with my GNex. (I also owned the original Motorola Droid. Excellent phone.) The difference could be the third party apps that we run. Or, you just got a lemon. I would consider exchanging it.
If that $2 figure were true (I don't think it is), then the reported $5 per android device that MS gets from its licensing deals is more than double Google's profit level.
I think that both figures need to be taken with a grain of salt, though.
Came here to say this. You can't prevent dumb people from installing malware voluntarily no matter what the OS. When install tells you exactly what the software can do, it's ridiculous to blame the OS for what the software then does.
But you can't teach religious ideas in a SCIENCE class without strongly implying that they are valid scientific theories. Religious ideas are taught all the time in the schools of the United States-- in religion classes.
I remember my 8th grade science class (in Mississippi):
Teacher/Football coach: You can read the next section if you want, but I'm not going to teach it or test you on it.
Me::-(
I was really interested in the subject matter and naive enough that I thought we would actually talk about it. This was in the early 1980's; I don't know what the current situation is like.
I just run every app in its own separate bottle. I have this alias in my.bashrc:
alias bottle='export WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=`pwd` && winecfg'
I open a terminal, CD in the directory that I want my windows program to go into and then type 'bottle'. It opens the winecfg panel and I make any adjustments needed. Then I run the installer from that terminal. Everything else is automagic. Program shortcuts are created with the appropriate env WINEPREFIX="blahblah" and work perfectly. As long as you set the appropriate WINEPREFIX, you can mess around with wine settings for that program to your heart's content without affecting any other programs in different prefixes.
I don't think I'm missing the point at all. Mr. Wanker doesn't mind disrupting ALL communication devices around him (even those that are quietly streaming audio through earbuds or those essential for the safe operation of the transport) because he's annoyed with a single person. No one gets to disrupt everyone else's legal activities in a fit of pique at one individual. That's even less considerate than the person "yelling" into his phone.
Doctors and Surgeons occasionally go to the movies, even when they're on call. Are you willing to accept responsibility for risking another person's life for an uninterrupted movie?
And Mr. Wanker lives up to his slashdot handle. It's ironic that you say,
I for one am fed up with the constant assault of cell phone conversations from people who have no idea how to be considerate to those around them.
when its obvious that you "have no idea how to be considerate to those around them" if you advocate disrupting everyone else's communication devices. The guy sitting next to you quietly streaming pandora over his mobile device and listening via headphones should not have his communications interrupted by an inconsiderate asshole like yourself.
Except that lighting that cigarette on the bus is likely illegal. If you want to change the law, please, make every effort to do so. But to intentionally infringe on others LEGAL activities to suit some selfish whim is the height of dickishness.
In all fairness, I don't think ANYBODY said that about Microsoft Bob :-)
That wasn't the only prototype android device. See here.

My favorite paper airplane is the ring.

I think you may have won the thread.

He's been somewhat successful at employing sheep's bladders to prevent earthquakes.
Not sure if serious...
Counting the hits...
It's full of stars!
Again, the amount he won was $850. Quit exaggerating.
He won a judgement of $850, so you're off by almost an order of magnitude.
I think that Sabre electronics has the design patent on that. Meet the pyramid tablet.

Exactly what I was thinking. NX client for Android! I would soooooo love for that to happen.
How would they "know the risk going in" when you're illegally jamming their phone signals without notice?
Should I blame the battery company too if their battery dies when they need to receive a call concerning their patients?
That makes no sense whatsoever. The battery company isn't actively trying to shut off their phone.
...don't sit near a talker.
Or next to some obnoxious antisocial asshole who thinks that whatever he wants trumps everyone else's rights.
Maybe they're in a car driving next to the bus.
