1) Cloud Computing is the next "fad" to come down the pike from the marketing departments of companies selling hardware and services. Examples of previous "fads": client server computing, n-tier thin client server computing, web services, virtual servers, etc.... While all these previous technologies have filled a need in the corporation, they also have failed to reach the hype that the marketing machines have set out for them. I predict the same for cloud computing. Some companies will move their applications into a vendor provided cloud, others will build their own internal cloud and keep everything in house. One vision does not fit all.
2) As far as the changes in job roles. If a job becomes easier to perform because of improvements in tools, then those jobs will move down the value chain and will be performed by those with less skills and less pay. So if you want to keep a high paying job, then continuous learning of new technical skills is required for IT. Difficult to do, high pay, easy, lower pay. Dont like that? Change careers. That is the way it has always been in IT and the way it will always be.

Business model for making music in the not so distant future:
1) Produce music public wants and deliver via internet (your marketing for your talent)
2) Cut out evil record companies an RIAA (eliminate waste and no value add)
3) Go on tour and make a good living and have your freedom as an artist

The ability to do symbolic computation has nothing to do with the field one selects but is more an innate ability. You will find people who are good at both data structures and numerical analysis... Its just a question of training and having exposure to both...
