The 3500 rocks. I've been using it for awhile now. Still trying to get Quake III working though - having probs finding the right drivers etc. Mostly because since I'm new to linux (only using it for about 14 months) I really have no idea where to find them. I'm major itching to play it though. Does the off-the-shelf version of Quake III have all the drivers etc that I would need? If so then I'd go buy it but I wanted to make sure it'll run on my system before buying. Could you email me if you know? And if you get the voodoo working with it? I really want to buy it but only if it'll work without me having to buy anything new.
I have never wired anything like this but with everyone mentioning 'leave a couple pullcords in' etc I thought I'd mention something. Instead of leaving 1 or 2 strings tied at either end and eventually having to add more, make the pulle string a loop. take a loop of string, pulled through the conduit, at either end, anchor the looped string with a hook or something similar. Then, when it's time to pull through the cable, simply attach the cable to the looped string(only 1 strand not both) and start to pull the other end. This would basically just rotate the looped string, carrying the tied-on cable to you. Then you simply disconnect the cable. Then you don't have to worry about stringing more cords and you'll save on the string/cord and effort. If I haven't been clear, think of it like this. Picture the old time clothes lines. The ones anchored between 2 posts or between your house and a post in the back yard. YOu hand the clothes, pull the 1 strand, the other strand (with the clothes) advances away from you. Same principle. Hope this is clear.
I've got the normal 3 button one at home and made work get me one with the wheel in the middle button. My review? I love it, it takes awhile to get used to it (especially clicking the wheel) but now I hate having to use any normal mouse. I wouldn't trade back for anything. They rock, I haven't had a problem with mine at home and it's about 1 1/2 years old so far. And it works in Linux no problem:-)
Who's to say they won't develope a display that can beam screen images directly onto your eye? That removes the monitor. There has already been talk for awhile about a virtual keyboard based on the position of your hands and fingers. Thus no keyboard, just a pair of gloves. I can see this technology getting to the point where you can use your computer anywhere. Carrying nothing but a pair of gloves. That would be cool.
If you have nothing better to say, why don't you shut up? If you have a problem with this place and the guys that run it, why the fuck are you here? Get a life, no one is interested in your opinions, especially when they are as dim-witted as these.
I'm dying to get one too, regardless of what side affects. I was playing with 3d rendering about 5 years ago and the program had this do-it-yourself viewer taht put everything into steroscopic for you. Problem was you had to push you face against the computer. Ever since then I've been waiting for a good ( and cheap) HUD that I could use. I think once the price is lowered, I'm gonna get me one. Offhand, I can think of about a dozen games (at leaast) that I would love to use this with!
I can't remember which TV show it was but they had a huge warning about these types of things. It seems that if you wear it for too long it can screw you up for when you take it off. It had something to do with the frame rate (so to speak) that our brains sees the natural world and what these things can provide. Once you brain got used to seeing things through these viewers, it had a hard time going back to normal. They were doing tests in one of the Disney places (world, land ?) and people who tested these new arcade games complained of dizziness and disorientation after leaving the game. They also reported that a few games were removed because of this. Does anyone remember seeing this? It was within the last 2 weeks. I'm in Canada so I don't know if you Americans saw it or not.
I don't know how real this is or whether it includes these devices but thought I'd add my 2 cents.

Talk about a harsh review! Makes me glad i don't have any money to invest. :-)
