I cannot defend the media companies that put out the films and televisions shows that you bemoan.
Most of the time , either there is a focus group that does a sci/fi show by commitee , ala startrek, or the author has no say in how their property was used.
For the print sciencefiction , however , that is a matter of taste.Just like music , you like it or hate based on your own personal likes and wants.
If its crap to you , then so be it , what more can one say.
