I think I read a comment that was made by a Doctor in this thread somewhere that touched upon something that people - especially Doctors - have sort of given up on. And that is Doctor/patient relationships.
Now I'm not saying ALL Doctors are 'heartless', but what I am saying is that the whole relationship dynamic has changed..
For instance, how many doctors do you know who make house calls? How many patients respect their doctor and have been going to the same one 'forever'? It just seems to me that many Doctors are only in it to make as much money as possible, and people in general are out to get as much as they can. Because of these outlooks, there is a clash.. and these clashes have caused a spiral that will not seem to quit.
The spiral is that the patients don't respect Doctors because they think they are money grabbers - and so think they are fair game to take legal action on for any little reason, Doctors don't give the patients the same service because the patients are trying to rip them off all the time and their own costs go up and up.. making them demand MORE money for their services, making the patients feel even MORE that they are money grabbers.. and so on and so on..
The only people making out of all this, are the insurance companies and the lawyers, and nobody likes them, but we ALL keep them in business in this 'spiral' we have created.
People need to remember that Doctors WILL take care of them, if they take care of the doctor.. they are human beings too, and you create a good relationship with them, and visa versa, then you will find that they can also be some of the most generous people as well!
Secretly, I love this idea. As a guy who grew up reading things like "Amazing Stories" and "Astounding", I've always been interested in stories where science and society blend like this - and not just in the normal ways that we have already such as microwaves and houses run by computer, I mean in the Asimov "I Robot" style.
Of course, we all know that this is eventually where it will lead, even though we both want to embrace it, and are scared of it at the same time: Human like robots. The more familiar we become with such apparatus as robots that 'help' us live our everyday lives, the more we will want to personalize them.
Look at people who name their cars! 20 odd years of living with a robot that wipes your backside for you, and cleans that crap out from between your toes, and it's almost a member of the family!! Personalizing something like that to make it more human would only be 'natural'.
So yes, personally I see this as a good thing.. but then, as I mentioned, reading all those stories, and seeing some of the reactions here, I can also see the dangers... Can't you?

World News ~ June 2nd, 2025 - JAPANWidespread panic hit the streets today as the two competing Robotics Firms in Tokyo battle it out!
The two main Robotics firms, Microsnort and Lin-X, in competition to make the first truly personalized Robots where hacked today in their Central Control Arrays. An underground organization, driven so back in the 2015 IT Riots, called GNU4U, decided to show the world the ingenuity of the once great open source/license movement - and the n00bs who pretend to program for the "big two".
Unable to control their latest inventions, MS and Lin-X could only watch in complete disgust as the "Bottom Wiper" line of bots cleaned up on the "Earwax Eradicators".
Wider spread panic is expected if the battle continues, as many older Tokyo couples are without toilet paper, and their partner can't hear them calling for a tissue because their ears are full of wax!
The Japanese pR0n industry is taking it all in it' stride, knowing it will only enlarge the input of scat material for their websites.
In other news, no one has yet explained why a pair of robotic pants was seen trying to run down a new robotic fish, but sources guess that it has something to do with where they got the fish smell from since the oceans have been bereft of the things since 2021.. and why is that female lab assitant blushing?

Yeah, I know.. long winded.. and not that funny.. wish I had a bloody "bring me coffe" robot.. oh wait, I do.. where's the wife..
In the end, there are really only two ways this can all go:
1) If this person can prove that they had been trying to negotiate a payment plan with the Sherrif, and that these subsequent charges against him are because he then stopped supplying the service when no settlement could be reached, then he will have a great case; and will probably win more than he says it all cost him.
2) He will go to jail, and has lost all of his computer equipment forever, and may even be restricted as to their use when all said and done.
Personally, I find this all to be an over-abuse of police power.. at this point. IF it turns out that there was no 'demand' for money, only a 'request', then the extortion charge seems pretty steep. Most of the other charges are just being used as 'add-ons' to that main charge - this was what was used in the committing of that crime etc.. However, they ARE serious enough to adequately destroy someones life and livelihood.
Was it reeally called for in this case? Why would they particularly need to seize his equipment and personal effects? Taking these things really do nothing to solve the 'case'.. if anything at all, maybe they would have wanted to server so they cold pull evidence of access logs etc from it, but beyond that, siezing all of his computer and electronic equipment associated with it, is just strong arm tactics.. I'm surprised more people aren't mentioning due process and reasonable search and siezure rules.
Still, the press is not a good place for finding out the 'truth' about such things.. after all, if you where to believe the press, then the Macomb Sherriff's office has enough problems as it is anyway, what with the Old Sherriff Hackell who was brought up on charges for rape (I think it was), and now his son taking over.. who is the currect Sherriff probably involved in this.
Basically, there's more to this than meets the eye, but I still feel there is something wrong when peoples property gets taken without there even being 'good reason'.
But that's just me I guess.. and I'm a bit of a SykeOpath;-)
Do yourself a favor.. drop XP and go back to Win2K. I have no idea what game MS was playing when it decided to throw XP at the public - well I do, and it's silly, but thats another thread...
Now, if you can't go back to W2K, give me some information about the system running this.. what MB, Memory, CPU etc are you using.. most of the problems you are experiencing come from not having something installed or set up correctly. Not to say you don;t know what you are doing.. I just have no idea about your ammount of experience with building systems yourself..
A GeForce3 is a good idea. I don't really think most games will require much more power than that for a little while. Even the daunting DOOM3 or RtCW get handled quite well by a G3.
Will it last you a year or two? Who the hell can say! As of right now I would say it would be fine, but things change quick. Depends on what game makers do..
I think you are way out of line here. As the guy said, they where in the 3D market, but only as a third grade contender.
If you really want to get to it and compare that nice Matrox Card with 4 megs you spoke of, I'd like to tell you that even then it didn't even come close to the S3-Virge 3D 4meg that came out around the same time.
Just because you can play some 3D games on a card, doesn't make it a good card. The fact that you happened to think that it was "good enough", shows the general quality of gaming you appear to appreciate..
Makes me wonder if you play UT or Q3 with a Viper V550, after all you can play these games with this card.. just plays like crap..

bah.. what an assinine reply.
Try Windows 2000, I have no problem with Gaming, business graphics, or even minor grpahical design on an Asus GF2 V7700 at 1600x1200.
Quite using Linux - Any version.. those cards run well under Be/OS too..
