here is the reason why the industry is partly loosing money
taken from the RIAA year end stats
Units shiped
2001 2002
968.5 859.6
ummm well if you produce less units, aren't you going to sell less of them?
call me crazy
"1.) Given the median age of the people who still knit and sew, i'd say that few of them use a computer, much less the internet."
1) That's complete bull. I live in Michigan, and my mother is in this quilting group called "Piecemakers". Everyone emails back and forth ideas and pictures of the stuff that they make. (300 members in the local chapter, and not all of them are 70 years old)
2) My mother has an embrodery machine that you can digitise pictures or drawings, and it can be connected to a computer to recieve new "patterns". Almost all of her friends do the same, and I (under the guilt trip) had to teach them how to use the software to do that.
"The government never should have let the Baby Bells keep ahold of both the physical lines and the services that use them"
If the Goverment would have split AT&T in two, (AT&T and a company that owned all of the equipment) all would have been better. That would have leveled the playing field. By making this "company" (not ATT, the unnamed hardware company) charge the same for all Telcos wanting the line, while making $$ to upgrade services, etc. You would never hear things like the BS that SBC pulled in Kansas, or any other state.
Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving and revolving at 900 miles an hour, It's orbiting at 19 miles a second, so it's reckoned, the sun that is the source of all our power. The Sun and you and me, and all the stars that we can see, are moving at a million miles a day, In the outer spiral arm, at 40,000 miles an hour, of the Galaxy we call the Milky Way
I wonder if I could get frequent flyer miles for that
"If ISPs would charge users for the bandwidth they use, it wouldn't matter what protocols take what bandwidth."
Ok, my only problem with this is...
I don't want to pay for things I don't want to view. (i.e. spam email, those flash and java adds, banners)
once those go away, sure I'll be happy to pay for my per GB
Blah Blah Blah... *insert funny comment about "we don't need any new graphics cars, Nethack RULES"*
sorry, had to post it, someone always post somthing like that on every graphic card news byte
lol live a little and laugh, it's funny!
ok, we covered that isp provide "caps" for downloads.. right?
I pay $25 a month for 256/128 (charter crapline)... now that $25 is PAYING FOR 256 down 24/7... no where in the TOS DOES IT SAY.... I can only d/load for 3 hrs a day. Following me yet? all services are capped, you pay for 256 down, or 512, or whatever, your still capped. How abt the cable comapnys provision the correct amount of people to the correct amount of total bandwith.
