  1. Keyrate? on Can the NSA brute force RC6? Probably. · · Score: 1

Well, it's taken us 630+ days to do about 10.5% of the keyspace. Hrm. If this can crack it on an average of about 3 minutes 35 seconds (3.58 minutes, rounded up) . . . hmm... I'll do the number crunching and try to estimate a keyrate within the next 18 hours.

This thing dwarves the Russian E2K for sure. =)

  2. How about the police? on Flying Car by end of year · · Score: 1

How much you wanna bet the police forces in large cities (LA, NYC, etc) are going to get modified versions of these? Cheaper to buy and maintain, and you probably can mount searchlights, radios, radar detectors (and machine guns) on these as well? Now that's bringing law enforcement up to par!

These would also could make for inexpensive scout craft (if not anti-infantry vehicles) for the military, neh?

Oh well, I'll just go apply for my pilot's liscence now ::whistle::.

  3. Number of floppies! on Wcarchive Does 1.39tb In 24 Hours · · Score: 1

    Well, let's do this together!

Supposedly 1,391,836,770,942 bytes have been transferred (bout 1.39TB).

A floppy disk has 2827 usable 512-byte sectors. Do the simple multiplication and that floppy disk holds 1,457,644 bytes.

After some division fun you get 954,840.6017724.
Round up to 954,841 and THAT'S how many floppies it would take to hold that much data.

Wonder how long it would take to split that? Any estimates? =)

I've been to Japan, I've seen the toilets... and ya wanna know what? I wouldn't be surprised if I ever saw one of these!

  6. I agree, the media is getting ridiculous... on Why Kids Kill · · Score: 1

AD&D is still taking blame for things, (though I find that many of my co-workers associate "AD&D" with "orgy", don't ask me why...) and Magic: The Gathering is still considered satanistic to many. Heh, trying getting through a catholic school playing those, not to mention when yer the only geek in the school. =)

Nother thing that cracked me up is I remember in HS when "jocks" and "preps" were generally annoying and made comments, teachers didn't do anything about it, but when the UN*X or VMS geek said something back? Heh, you'd get written up or sent to the office or your guidance counselor.

Too much sterotyping and judgmental decisions being made in my opinion. Course, s'my opinion, feel free to share your own or flame mine or talk about cheese, etc.

To any geeks in HS that are ridiculed by inconsiderate jerks:
Just think, ye'll me making their salary several times over more than likely. ;)
