KDE will never make any progress with its lack of UNIX-like philosophy. With gnome it is small programs to get the job done, just like UNIX -- with KDE it is FATASS program to do many jobs, just like Microsoft. The fact that Konqueror is designed to be exactly like M$ internet explorer just goes to show the mentality of the KDE designers/developers. Oh, wait, there are no designers, the people are programmers with no insight on how to create a good user experience. M$ pays people to make the interface pleasant, KDE boasts egos of people who make icons and translations, telling them they are doing the same thing to fight a war on Redmond.
Now, what exactly is wrong with KDE? The Window Manager is really awful, the configuration tries to do so much but accomplishes so little and the menu of applications is too difficult to modify to ones liking. GNOME beats it because it doesn't get in the way as much. In another few years KDE will be completely forgotten to a GNOME having advanced light years ahead.
