  1. bummer on Press Favored Obama Throughout Campaign · · Score: 1

I for one am sorry to hear this. I think Obama could have won without any bias, maybe even with a small bias against him. He has the right ideas and McCain's campaign was a joke. God help us if a woman like Palin ever wins high office. That said, one of the early posters made a good point - these statistics were just for one paper. I'm sure that, depending on the media market, different papers were biased in different directions. I doubt you found a lot of glowing reportage on Obama in Mississippi or Alabama! And New York was going for Obama no matter what. So maybe over all there was some balance, and maybe the bias wasn't so great that it actually swung the election. After all, after 8 years of Bush/Cheney, the challenger (Democrat) should have won by a landslide, not the average margin that Obama received!

where democracy is dead, where most people are too lazy or too dumb to care or try to understand the issues and exersize their constitionally granted rights and obligations, where big business and big money rules. and don't give me this crap about the "free" market. we have never had a free market in america - the businesses and individuals with the deepest pockets have always purchased unfair advantages for themselves. if you really value a free market you need to start with a level playing field, and that means equal access. in that regard the information super-highway actually is like a real highway - it's a public utility that should be maintained us such, with equal access to all, not extra access to those who can pay for it.

  4. netflix good, movie store bad ... on DVDs By Mail? · · Score: 1

i'll jump on the bandwagon & say that i really like the netflix service, especially now that they have a delivery center near me and can turn around a dvd within a week (between when i return a dvd and when i get a new one back). i'm on the "lite" plan that i signed up for several years ago so i only pay $12/month to have two dvd's at a time. amoung the tings i love about the service:
    - ability to maintain an ongoing list of movies i want to see, and change the order at any time. whenever i think of a movie i just log on & add it to the list, at home or work!
    - no more drives to the video store with the wife & kids & 30 minutes plus browsing ALL the titles to find the perfect one for tonight, while trying to keep the kids (ages 3 & 5) in line.
    - no more worrying about late fees. just keep it 'til you're done using it!
    - easy return - no extra trip to the store, just drop it in the mail.

with a delivery center nearby we can watch two movies/week, or 8/month, which is $1.50/movie for ANY title - a way better deal than the store, and far superior selection. of course we don't often watch that many movies so the cost/movie goes up, but given the savings in time & hastle i think it's well worth the cost!
