Tablet PC's use Microsoft Ink technology (it's built into the branched version of XP Tablet Edition). While I'm not a Microsoft fan, the Ink technology was intriguing. It records info such as pressure, pen angle, and speed. With this additional information, a signature turns into one of the toughest passwords that can't be reproduced.

  3. Re:Cubesoft on Finding Decent Unix Server Hosting? · · Score: 1

I run a website with 400 users checking a forum all hours of the day...I started out with CSoft and their FreeBSD option. Basically, it sucked. I believe their problem is with their reverse DNS...Alal.com's Uptime monitor sent me tons of downtime alarms while CSoft always insisted their site was online. One of my friends suggested it was a misconfigured DNS server...when I passed the suggestion along, they took it as an insult and continued to provide poor uptime. In June of 2002, the server I was hosted on suffered a complete loss of all data. They could not backup any of it. Fortunately, my site was moved to another host by then. I would strongly recommend against Cubesoft.

  6. CS has nothing to do with computers nor science on Are Written Computer Science Exams a Fair Measure? · · Score: 1
Computer Science is about algorithms, math and logic. Some classes I took in college were pure theory. Others had a ton of project work, but they always focused on correct algorithms....not hacking it out in front of an lcd for hours on end.

I've found that people who didn't go to a decent college for computer science typically wind up as "Nick, your company's computer guy."

Always defensive, always hacking away at a terminal, never seeing the big picture on a project.

Anyone who wants to take a test with a compiler sitting in front of them is a hack. They should look for an MCSE examination instead of Advanced Placement in CS.
