Land mines are a cheap and easy way to deny territory to those who hate you, so it seems we will be mucking about with them for quite awhile.
Will it not work on underground miens mines because the laser won't penetrate, or because the system is unable to locate them. Seems to me that if the laser can either ignite or destroy the explosive core of a mine through uits metal casing, that a couple of inches of soil shouldn't slow it down to terribly much.
Maybe better detection systems are better investment.
An excellant point. Hadn't thought of that. Course I still find it odd that two of the world's largest providers of this are both tanking simultaneously. It just seems to indicate that something else is occuring.
If the top two internet backbones are going down due to financial difficulties, what does that say about the viability of making money providing such a service? One I could easily ascribe to mismanagement, but two? Seems likelier that there just is not the money in this that the companies thought there was. Perhaps big business is not the way to go here.
It is obvious that the media is biased towards whatever will make them more money. The question remains, however, of what to do about it? Information drives our culture, business and nation. Yet we know that the information we receive from the media is biased and inaccurate- and we still use it! Maybe we should accept that all information is going to be biased by the dessiminators perspective, and use our own critical thinking skills in utilizing the information. As such we could place more emphasis on critical thinking in our education system, and get people to start being proactive in their lifes, instead of bleating what the news says like sheep.
I know once you pass FL 180 you need to be flying on an IFR flight plan up to FL 600. Is the FAA going to require this? How is the air traffic control along your flight path going to be worked out? I'm also in the Pacific NW and am looking forward to the NOTAM for possible Rocket activities...
Best of luck!
The money making in aviation is getting farther and farther from carrying people, and more and more to carrying cargo. Boxes don't care where they sit, nor do they worry much about evacuating. While this may or may not catch on for the passenger market, this could make a big splash with the freight dogs.
Boeing also has another concept on the drawing table http://www.boeing.com/news/feature/concept/ which is a near supersonic transport aimed squarely at the long haul passenger market. It will be interesting to see which is developed.
