I see actionScript on here, but not Lingo (for Macromedia Director). I think there are others missing, too. I guess O'Reilly hasn't published a Lingo book.
Recently, three immigrant children were decapitated in a northern Baltimore apartment. There has been a lot of speculation that it was part of an illegal immigration scheme. The mayor himself visited the crime scene. I live nearby, and have friends who live on that block. Baltimore is a huge melting pot of a city, and, I suppose, an ideal target for terrorist cells. We are the farthest inland sea port, close to DC, etc. and the mayor completely flipped after 911 about security. But I don't really see how these big brother cameras will make a difference one way or the other. I guess is something blew up in the inner harbor, "they" might now about it a few seconds earlier than they would have without them.
This definitely feeds the "Culture of Fear" that this current administration has worked so hard to foster.
That's tough.
I used to work in a geriatric hospital and nursing home as a music therapist. I worked with a variety of populations/settings (adult daycare, locked psych ward and dementia patients). Schizophrenia was one of the more challenging conditions I encountered. I'd say every other group responded favorably to music, but the schizophrenics usually became agitated more often than not. However, I did notice that the meds made a big difference for them, and I could tell it worked by how they responded later on in their treatment to the music.
Meds may prove to be a big help....that's a big challenge. Good luck.
I used to work as a wholesale music buyer, and I've played in a few indie bands (Bazooka Foe, Diana Froley) myself and released a few CDs.
The web is a great way to promote your music and band. Consider the Dave Mathews band (which I'm not crazy about music-wise) - he let people make tapes from the mixing board at his shows and swap tapes. A brilliant marketing idea - the tapes spread his name and music. Landed him on a major.
Letting people download and swap MP3's is excellent. I love the idea of circumventing the current-bloated-zombie music industry model and DIY-ing music and distribution ourselves. It makes it FUN again. With affordable off-the-shelf technology, a website and some marketing smarts, you can create your own label and release all the music you want. Make stickers with your URL for live shows. Distribute your songs and CDs from the web.
Rock ON!
