When your fellow classmates are in the boardroom meeting, they won't be able to "IM" the chairman. They won't be able to "IM" the judge when they're in the courtroom. They won't be able to "IM" the rest of the group during a brainstorm session.
Your classroom is producing students too embarrassed to ask questions in the workplace too. All they're good for is making anonymous postings to wastelands like Slashdot. The classroom is also a place where you learn to overcome the natural fear of embarrassment due to ignorance. Smaller classes, more teachers, and fewer computer help in that area of a person's education as well.
