I don't know where he got the impression that Japan is sexless. All you have to do is look at some hentai. Some of it is tame, some of it is pretty...odd, but it is definitely no sexless.
Hentai and anime aside, you could read James Clavell's Sho-gun. Granted, it is written by a westerner, but it is still entertaining and portrays the lives of the ancient Japanese aristocracy.
Actually, there were a lot of settlements in the North American interior prior to 1800. I'm not talking about the Native Americans (although they are included as well). Santa Fe existed before the Pilgrims ever thought about coming to the "New World". Of course, I guess it all depends on how you define "settlement".

At any rate, I agree. Even if anyone gets to Mars, it would be a long time before anybody decided to settle there. No one has done anything with the Moon yet, and we went there 30 years ago. Mars is further away, so it stands to reason that the cost of settling there would be that much higher. Still...gotta love Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles.
btw, I lived in Colorado for over 20 years. I always thought it a bit strange that the pop-culture history pretends that the "Old West" didn't start until the 1800's.
The way I read it is they anticipate getting 1000 subscribers within six months, not 1000 subscribers for six month memberships. They aren't going to get 1000 people offering up 50 euros on the first day. They think it will take them six months to get 1000 people willing to pay for annual memberships. So, they will still get 50k.
As far as the costs go, I'm guessing they aren't talking about a full-time webmaster. Blender already has a strong community base, and I'm sure that some of those people will help out with some of the webpage content, tutorials, and such.
At any rate, I wish them the best of luck. Hopefully, this will lead to some cool plugins and enhancements for future versions.
Yeah...Underwater BattleBots :->
Does this mean that Sony will sue itself for creating an circumvention device?

This seems like fodder for longbets.org. Anyone got $1000?

What is he expecting? A Martian Welcome Wagon?
If making things in Blender were so easy that anyone could do it, then we wouldn't be able to give the wizards the awe they so richly deserve.
Think of Scotty in Star Trek. He seems like a "miracle-worker" because he can easily do something that is daunting to others.
