I believe that this is exactly the point I'm trying to make. It's a pain and there's no consistency. If you say "Linux" nobody knows what you mean because, as you so appropriately put it, there are just too many darn choices out there. I guess that's what I mean by about floating out there aimlessly.

This is actually a really good point. My biggest complaint about Linux has always been that it constantly tries to copy WINDOWS which I have been totally disgusted by and why I love my Mac. I keep hearing that everyone wants OS X on x86 hardware. Why hasn't Linux, which appears to be floundering aimlessly, focused its efforts on being more like OS X than Windows? Isn't it what will REALLY motivate people to give Linux a try?
Here is how to get rid of the ad:
Change the system date of your computer to 10 years in the future.
Launch QuickTime.
Click "Later" on the banner.
Quit QuickTime.
Change the system date back to today.
Launch QuickTime again, and enjoy!
