--Land development is planned. Try suggesting that cities should get rid of all zoning laws.--
Houston Texas doesn't have any zoning and lots of people live there. What is really cool about no zoning is everything is real close by. P almost always = NP IMO.
--Fundamentally, this is hard. Take, for instance, fracking. How do people prove that the antifreeze they are pumping from their wells came from the drilling when it could be either a crack in the well casing as it passes through the water table or it could have been dumped 50 years ago in some mechanic's backyard and finally seeped in?--
No don't outlaw it but when a speculator looses money don't give them more, at least not taxpayer money. If they want to gamble and loose, let them and then the price will go down.
Agreed, what more than anything else raises prices when supply is up and needed demand is down is un-needed demand. Speculators are now treating oil just like gold. I think this is because of the possibility of Iran interfering with the global supply.
As far as the last thing you said, there are plenty of jobs in North Dakota and Texas. Not many people can afford to pick up and move especially to North Dakota. Brrrr.... and Texas has some funky state laws.
We are a large producer. We just use to much in comparison to our population. The US could do with less and not effect our standard of living too much.
--2) World population will grow, increasing demand--
This is already happening. We should build as many nuke plants as possible and start using the electric motor instead of the internal combustion engine. We could embed induction wire in the interstates since batteries ain't cutting it for range yet if ever.
--3) Mass change in lifestyle--
Yeah like using less energy period. That's already working somewhat too as every so many years energy star minimums decrease. It is now just about impossible to buy a heat pump less than seer 13. It's now against the law.
Even if domestic production costs more in the beginning, it will save us later on as some things really depend upon oil even more than gas and vehicles like fertilizers, plastics, etc. are still cheaper especially fertilizer and chemicals to farm with and machines too. That's why the world has 7 billion people in it in the first place, fossil fuel. We need to work fast on finding replacements with global warming and a short supply looming. Otherwise our population will be reduced and I don't like that solution.
It will be hard as we have used fossil fuels for at least 6000 years.
Drilling doesn't take long. Pipelines take a while because of all of the different properties you have to go through especially to get oil out of North Dakota. That will take some time.
I think it has more to do with age discrimination as no on wants to hire someone over 45 no matter what their skill set is because of medical insurance is tied to company groups.
How many of those lawsuits you have just mentioned have ever been won. If it's a sizable company they would tie you up with their lawyers until the day you would die. Smart lawyers cost lots of money, more than most have.
Now if they made it a criminal offense with jail time, it'd be different. Then you could call the cops.
This might be so in certain cases and not in others. I would say some go after any company that is large. In fact Verizon has so many people working for them, there is no way customer relations and going to be good. Maybe they ought to hire more people that actually know what they are doing and much less that don't.
Who owns the roads? You? You can also own a machine gun if you meet certain requirements and pay a tax. So when it comes to driving it's not even all your property. Like I said if you are walking they shouldn't be allowed to border check you 100 miles from any border but with driving the cops do just about anything they want depending upon state and local laws. If you don't have all of your paperwork right, you can't drive and I think they have a right to ask for that even though it is sometimes annoying.
Smuggling drugs and/or people from Mexico into the US is a huge problem. Walling the entire border off like Berlin would be kinda tough as we have massive borders with both Canada and Mexico.
Maybe the whole situation of legalization of certain drugs with controls and taxes just like cigarettes or even tighter would probably save lots of money and cut down on organized crime but every time someone brings that up, they say that's like saying it's OK to kids but that's a whole different subject.
All I'm saying IS that what they are doing is not against the law unless the Supreme Court reverses some decisions that they in the past which can and does happen but is not likely here.
Nothing except the procedure is the same. If you drive you can be stopped and asked for your papers and the cops can set up check points any place they like where a state allows that randomly, however I never saw anyone that was checked for walking through one.
I assume the Border Patrol is backing out further to catch people off guard but only in the good ole USA would the border be 100 miles in. That don't make sense as driving around after midnight is probably considered probable cause by the police in some counties in Texas.
The reason I said "do I have a choice" is that when you say "do you have a warrant" many times they will and possibly can go get one but what do I know I'm not a lawyer for sure but even if you are not guilty, don't talk to them. Cops and Lawyers both have told me that is how they jail 90% of people because they can't shut up.

I don't fracking know?

Tax the difference and they will. Any energy exports out of the US should be taxed.

It's called speculation.

The lack of enough pipeline out of North Dakota could have something to do with it too.
Actually most of this latest round of drilling has been on private land and state land but nothing new on federal land much.

Yeah just give them your /. password instead.

Hacktivists are motivated by politics which is motivated by money. So I don't see the difference. I wonder what Google's figures are?
How do you prove it?

I wasn't joking, there is an eastern power grid and a western power grid and also a Texas one. Texas is almost like a separate country.

Exactly.
Since you are a lawyer, you should know never talk to cops. If they say can I search your car, say do I have a choice and if so the answer is no.
The reason that it is OK legally is that having a license to drive a car is not a right.
Some mark the trail too.
