i'm sure that nearly all of them succeed, and a large ammount of them probably distinguish themselves above their peers. the macarthur program is very picky about the recipients of the genius grant. the "geniuses" they pick have demonstrated extraordinary abilities in their area. these abilities alone would be enough for their success. the grant is meant to hopefully help them take whatever it is that they do to a new level.
i'm glad to see such diversity on the list of recipients; it goes from trombone improvisationalists to robotics engineers. it's good to see both linear and non-linear genius recognized by the same organization.
