Oh wow, I don't know where to start.

    2. Open-source software sucks compared to closed-source because it's not done by 'professionals'? Give me a break! Several open-source projects are funded by companies, organizations, and universities and are recognized world-wide.

    3. You're saying you can't use those programs because of their silly names which you somehow derived as sexual euphemisms? What about windows cause it kinda sounds something like dildos LOL!

    4. You're comparing programming to prostitution while discussing the lack of professionalism -- how very... professional!

  2. Recycling programs on Whose Burden is it to Recycle Computers? · · Score: 1

At my old high school in Louisiana, my teacher had got zero funding and taught computer science (he was more knowledgable and a better instructor than a lot of undergrad professors). He had archaic machines for several years and eventually joined up with a program called CLK (Computers for Louisiana Kids). It was a wonderful system where companies could throw their computers away to this warehouse, and schools like ours would have at least something to work on. It not only gave us computers to program on , but those going in to the service industry could tear apart computers and not really worry too much about destroying anything and could also deal with a huge amount of bizare problems. Thanks to that program I was also able to get in to grid computing at an early age.

Actually, this is a major plan for Chungles. I'm looking to get a stable version up before I add native mounting, but it's definitely something needed.

  4. Re:Java? on Simple Cross-Platform File Sharing with Chungles · · Score: 1

Ha, that's about right. Why Java? A few reasons. The biggest being libraries. I haven't really found anything quite like SWT for other languages. To be quite honest, I'd rather write it in D but it hasn't really gotten anywhere yet. C is also a great language but I ruled it out because I'd rather deal with something a little more high level for this task. C++ was ruled out cause I flat out hate it. I don't think any slashdotter has justified truly why not to use Java.

how about those high end win32 features (scalability, stability, and not to mention, the pretty colors) missing from linux? :P

In Louisiana when cox broke away from excite@home they gave us a 3mbps downstream and upgraded our crappy 150kbps upstream to 340kbps. Still crappy upload but better.
