I sort of agree. I love mac OS X and linux and detest microsoft, but these ads still make me feel kind of unsettled. maybe a little embarassed. I have to appreciate what apple is trying to do: get people to switch, which I think is a good idea...but there is something about these ads which make me cringe a little bit. some of the people are a little goofy looking. I do like the fact that Mac users can now hold their heads up high and at least claim they have a better OS, but I'm not sure that these people are the ones to convey the message. but then who am I? I already own a mac (two if you include the iPod).
ok, so it is a compound word. whatever...my question: can you run X windows apps on top of XP? remember there are literally thousands of free BSD ports out there for the taking that work with OS X, many of which are scientific and/or mathematics related (http://gnu-darwin.sourceforge.net). As I sit here writing this I have two xterm windows up, the GIMP, terminal.app and Mozilla. maybe XP can do that, but really, why bother...it wouldn't "just work". And no, this is not easy. but when you get X working on top of OS X for the first time, it is a rush, lemme tell ya.
Linux can read HFS+ partitions. I know...I use the hfsutils on my Yellow Dog Linux System. they are easy commands hpmount, hpcopy, etc. I want to know when 1394 drivers or kernel patches will be added to the ppc kernel tree. that would make using my iPod a lot easier....
