  1. This is a pain in the sphincter on Screensaver Bug in Mac OS X · · Score: 2, Insightful

You guys keep saying that since people have physical access they can rest the password anyway... that is not the issue. I have tons of apps that are open at the same time at work. (Photoshop, quark, Golive) Golive is linked to more than 4 network servers mounted on the desktop. When I log in it takes more than 5 minutes to load all apps and files. I can t log off everytime I go to grab some water or leave my desk for a meeting. Our webserver has more than 25 thousand pages and they all need to be loaded/parsed by Golive on launch. What I need is to protect the machine from temporary access from co-workers/consultants etc. looking for personal/confidential stuff. They will not reset the password because that would raise eyebrows, what they need is stealth. This needs to be fixed very very quickly since login out all the time is NOT an option for me.

  2. This is a good thing on TiVo To Sell Customer Data · · Score: 1

Why? As any of you ever wanted to be polled by Nielsen and other stats companies? I believe Tivo will be able to make stats better than Nielsen boxes especially when people leave the TV open even when they do not watch. I welcome the fact that advertisers will see that I thumbed down 'John (douchbag) Edwards crossing over' and regularly watch StargateSg1 or the Discovery chanel... I wish everything I watch and thumbs up or down was actually used by these stats companies so they can get rid of crap shows (like edward's)

  3. Frames don t suck, they have a purpose on SBC Getting Aggressive With Frames Patent · · Score: 2, Insightful

I didsagree with 'Frames suck' comments. In certain cases Frames are very helpfull for people who have slow connections.

Example: You have a flash navigation that loads like 30k for the whole site in the top navigation frame and every other links from that navigation gord to a bottom frame. Users can navigate and go from page to page with and keep the top main navigation loaded all the time.

Kinda like if you take the Apple.com site and make the top navigation appear in one frame.
that way when you scroll long pages, the navigation is always available, this is a good way to use frames so you don t have to scroll back up to go somewhere else.

Same thing here on /. when you have to scroll back up to get back to the home page or access the navigation. Ultimately this is a question of personal preferences of course...but saying that frammes are ALL bad is not correct.

Here is a link to support my argument.

  4. Example on New Ultra-Intrusive Pop-up Ads Introduced · · Score: 1

An example of these ads can be found here You guys are talking about not going back to the sites using those ads...a much better solution is to email the webmasters and tell them about it. A well worded insulting letter saying you will never go back to the site again...ever... may be more effective to be just pissed off and decide not to come back. Only problem is that you have to spend time writting a complaint

  5. your lack of concern is incredible on Will Earth Expire By 2050? · · Score: 1

First things first: It IS known for a fact is that many species are dying and becoming extinct. The WWF is a non-profit organisation, they are not in this to make money but to preserve the earth for future generations. They are not doing this to get more funding and if there wasn t a problem, they would not be there in the first place. Also if there were no more threat to wildlife anymore the WWF would just close and they would be happy about it. but nowadays most of the population doesn t give a Marsbar about extinction. People are not sensible enough about the global effect that we are having on the world. I once went to see a friend working at the London zoo. he showed me the last of a species of rare frogs. two weeks later that specie was extinct, they couldn t save it and even if it was a freaking frog I felt bad having witnessed its extinction. Anyway, I am not going to spend too much time on this but any of you who sincerely say that there isnt any problem with species becoming rapidly extinct in the last 50 years because of us is an idiot...period. You can use all the sarcasm you want but Endangered species are a fact and any organisation that fights to preserve diversity on the planet is good. i for one want my granchildren to be able to see a living tiger, not a picture of one in a book.
