  1. Re:Blame The Government on Google Founders Cut Salaries to $1 · · Score: 1

Earned income isn't taxed any differently than earned income. In fact many deductions cannot be applied to earned income. Capital gains taxes and stock dividends are taxed differently than income, but that is because they are different than income. Dividends are corporate profits that have already been taxed and capital gains are returns on investments not income. They aren't income. Now options should be considered as income and taxed according to their value when granted.

In any case the submitter discussion of FICA is ridiculous. The amount of FICA taxes paid affects the amount that is paid by social security when you retire. So Sergey and Larry won't be able to collect benefits from years when they made $1. Addtionally FICA is a regressive tax and has a cap on the maximum that will be paid. So Sergey and Larry dont' really stand to save that much by avoiding there FICA taxes.

Removing telnet to force people to use ssh is a dumb idea. Some systems (gasp) still don't support ssh for some reason. Maybe alias telnet to a bash script that prints a warning before launching the binary.

Telnet is also very useful for server debugging or doing a quick check of email over POP. I use it all the time to test smtp servers, and make sure that they aren't allowing remote relay. Checking POP over telnet is faster than firing up a full email program if you just want to check if you have mail. Also its useful if you only have POP/IMAP access to mail and you're not at your computer. Without having to mess with configuring a program you can quickly read your mail.

EMachines sells set configurations to retail outlets. Gateway makes machines "custom to order" Even when buying at the physical store you frequently have your PC shipped from the factory.

Micron tried to combine these markets by selling made to order machines at Best Buy but it didn't really catch on.

Maybe with this merger a there will be a Gateway retail brand too. It could be a more expensive alternative to the EMachine base system.

I don't really think the corporate IT market buys stuff in a store. I can't imagine driving to my office with a few hundred PCs in my car. Plus business users don't really care what it looks like or need to try it before we buy it. We know what it is.

Anyway the Dell stores are in the home section of the site. It also mentions shipping to your home and with a location like: "on the first floor between Abercrombie and the Limited." I don't think its meant for business.

Dell has stores in about ten states.

No idea if they're profitable though.
