I get 40 days (41+2/3) for MTBF only assuming it will then be down for a whole hour: not a valid assumption I guess. Assuming a 5 minutes downtime results in the 3-4 days mentioned earlier.

I cannot see why this is a stability test of realplayer though ;-)

You should be prepared to accept future problems, when trying to upgrade, or install the missing parts; it was the case when X-windows was reorganized in slink, and it is a natural, and even healthy possibility of fast development. Having said that, I encourage you to test cutting-edge debian and help its development.

The terminology is clear to a Debian user, probably not to outside people though. Debian has a stable and unstable tree, much like the linux kernel development. Since a week, the stable version is Debian 2.1, codenamed slink, and the unstable is called potato. The poster just said that glibc 2.1 is in potato (unstable) and, naturally, in the free part of it (main).

  10. "Knowledge workers" on Microsoft to Split into Four Groups? · · Score: 1

The term "knowledge workers" has recently been used in the Economist, when advertising a report of the Economist Intelligence Unit and Anderson Consulting on the possibilities of opening new business in Asia. If I recall it correctly, a key issue is the creation of a pool of knowledge workers, meaning people that will create (instead of just use/abuse) knowledge, and the report analyzes how to recognize them, inspire them, and keep them. I guess many of us understand this concept, its fine implications, and even know the people. Sadly enough, I cannot afford ordering the report; I am sure they have read it in Microsoft though.
