Where this disrespect for freedom leads can easily be observed in Germany (where I live): Directly after the reunification everybody from the former communist East was happy about being able to travel, not being shot for reading the wring books and so forth. But as soon as the economic hardships set in (i.e. layoffs, bankrupt companies), people in the East starting whining about how cruel the capitalist system is. So they started to vote for their former communist party, basilcally the people who suppressed them for 40 years. Result: The former suppressors will likely be elected to the next German government. So we all will have our freedom curtailed soon.
This is where your thinking leads. Bertold Brecht once said: "Image nobody going to war anymore. Then war is going to come to you."
