What I don't understand is how desperate you have to be to go commercial with application which is used mainly for illegal file sharing. I mean, cmon people are sharing mp3's, divx-ripps, applications and games. Not like somebody would actually download mpegs of my pets or my kid brother's birthday.
Not that I am preaching, but it was kinda gray activity, we all know what it is used for.
Going commercial is going to be the death of it, but hey they, are just lazy and are trying to make a living without having a proper job.
I wish somebody would pay me money to change desktop backgrounds in my blackbox, and play around with my Eterm, because I think it's fun. I kinda grow out of that idea long time ago, and had a nice job since...
Get a life.
I'll rather donate money to Linus or Alan Cox or Rasterman, but certainly not to Mandrake. What have they done? Made linux look like Windows? And all those mdk-rpms? No thanks.
I emerge my stuff =)
Well obviously the writer never ripped a cd to mp3:
"...this way audio recordings can be reduced to less than 1/20 of their initial data amount without a noticeable loss of much quality."
OK, let's see, I'll rip "depeche mode - strangelove" with cdparanoia. I got.wav file of 52379084 bytes. Then we encode that with lame-3.93-mmx with standard (reproducable) switches (--r3mix) and end up with mp3 that is compressed 6.5 times (according to lame), 6347467 bytes.
Play that up in stereo, and you can hear the difference, maybe not in frequencies, but definitely in dynamics and stereo picture.
So how can I compress that 20 times without hearing the difference? I gotta have that CODEC!
long pages without
*cough* *hint* *cough*

that would be awful. just imagine how much tax money would be spend arguing wether the evidence is good or not...
