  1. Re:What is it with geeks and Dune? on Dune Scores Huge Ratings · · Score: 1

Its probably the "What would my carreer be in this world?" question. Personally I reckon the majority of /. readers would opt for either Ixian/Tleilax engineers, Mentat or (female option only) Bene Gesserit

    Just my opinion

  2. How about VNC on Thin-Client Applicaton Architectures? · · Score: 1
Has anyone considered VNC to serve X apps, one nice big cluster and a load of machines capable of booting a linux floppy with the SVGA VNC viewer could work as terminals, eg 386's with 8MB RAM.

See AT&T Labs UK VNC Pages

My NT workstation whose volume I expanded onto a newly available bit of disk and left booting for an hour before I could use it again.

Oh, and my linux box (P60,40MB RAM) boots in the same time as my NT box (P200, 80MB RAM)

I use the names of the ringbearers to name the boxes on my home network, so far galadriel and gandalf are functional and frodo I have been barred from touching by a parent who likes her work to be in the same place from one day to the next.
    Elrond is under construction.

Remeber children, be good, or when you die you will be sent to hell and forced to maintain an NT network...

For those of you consigned to this fate may I offer this choice of maintenance tools: Axes, Shotguns, Petrol and C4. Or the more sensible road of upgrade them all to linux and use the best machines to play quake via the net
