I thought countries ended around 25km up in the air so that space is free for everyone (like antartica). I guess they could launch their own satellite without to much problem, unless the UN decides not to let them and uses that as a violation to kill them or something.
Unfortuneately many of them live in the stone age now. The best way it seems to make them sociall evolve (assuming that one considers democracy more evolved than a dictatorship, which I do) is to allow their people access to information and goods. China is on their way to becoming a 'modern' state in the sense of democracy. its just that social and political change happens very slowly.
They were helped by Spanish stratigcal errors the most though. The almost undamaged Spanish armada put in for the night while still in the channel. The Brits lit up some fire ships and watched many of the Spanish ships burn and waited for a finally disorganized fleet to come out and fight while not in formation. Without the tight cresent formation, the English sailors, knowing the waters better, hammered them into leaving for a time, though they were all too battered and probably would have come back for more. Then the weather hit like a banshee. You would think that the foolish Spanish would learn not to anchor their ships right next to one another after Drake sailed into harbor and destroyed 25 ships with his single one couple years earlier (may be only one year, still to early in the morning to think). Of course you would also think the US would learn from the Drake enterprise, but needed Pearl Harbor to learn that lesson.
Yes, they determine their own morals. IP is questionable to many people, but murder seems to be somewhat different as it clearly interferes with someones right to live, etc. Natural IP rights are arguable for many people, but murder is not. Yes, they determine their own morals but the vast majority will abandon them quickly if they support murderers. As for good and bad, maybe anything that interferes with anothers right to life, liberty, etc. is naturally bad.
Smirnoff is really not that great. Its better than the barely distilled crap that some claim is vodka, but still rather rough. I am an american so of course I prefer the western vodkas without as much character (well most of the time). Personally Ketel One is my favorite for sipping. And remember folks, vodka should be ice cold and served out of a tall fluted glass. That way one can roll it around and let the characteristics play out as they may. Man i love Vodka. Anyone drink citron flavored stuff. i tried my second last night, Tanqueray Sterling Citrus. Much better than the absolut junk but still seemed lacking. it went down but failed to leave anything I thought. Any suggestions on Citrus flavored vodkas?
You are correct, I have done no coding of any importance. I have however worked for months on a series of mathematical proofs involving a beautiful blend of transfinite induction and recursion. They are, in my opinion, rather beautiful in the way they interweave the two techniques. I will gladly send you, or anyone copys of the papers, without charge, if you email and ask. I have created, after working very hard (you try transfinite mathematics for awhile and tell me it's easy) and will glady share what I have done with everyone and anyone for the mere sake of showing someone something beautiful.
I did not know that. Thank you. Unfortuneately at school here we use plain test. I like saying things like 'oh me, I didnt put that packet sniffer on the machine. oh by the way, your extra-marital boyfriend is busy tonight.' hehe
But if a large portion of source code was available why the hell would anyone buy it from you. Im not talking about communism at all, from an capitalist point of view there is an infinite supply of copys of informatio, enough to meet any demand, so therefore there is no price. Many people create because they want to, not because they feel the need to make money. Take the open source community for example, the incentive to code here has nothing to do with profit.
Heh, I am the moron before. The way you stated it, it seems that 15% of the people appoint one person who can enforce what 565 reps voted for by 15% of the people say is law. The fact is that no government can enforce rules which restrict the freedom to do whatever the fuck I want to as long as it doesnt impose on someone else's freedoms (ie drugs to my own body, etc.). Being anonymous does not impose on someone else's freedom. Owning a gun does not impose on someone else's freedom. Pointing a gun at someone and threatening them does impose on their freedom. We, as a people, have agreed on that. Well anyway, I think that you place to much credence in an arbitrary system of government and not on your own innate right to freely do whatever, etc.
how in the hell does this differ from intentionally vandalising someones property. We dont need more fucking laws, that is how the lawyers keep themselves in business. we need rational application of existing laws. (except copyright which I dont think is valid because it is an unenforcable law.)
Yes, thats what Euclid thought too when he wrote Elements. He thought 'Good thing there are all these publishing companies here to promote my book to the second most widely read book in history of western civilization' Good works will be read more than others. Hell, I didnt even hear of cryptonomicon until the review was published here at slashdot. Good thing that publishing company advertised that sucker to me ro I would have never heard about it:) (sarcastic there)
Yes int he days before IP there was only shitty music, like Beethoven, Mozart and many other genius composers. Now poeple like meaningless shit with very little musical quality like Brittny Boobs and the other crap. Research scientists do not play with IP shit (unless they are assholes whol publish rediculously priced books. I like it when the instructor passes out his own notes:) and the last 100 years have seen more pure scientific innovation than all human history combined. IP is stupid.
I agree wholeheartedly that IP is rediculous, but capitalism will fly with that if you think about it in the right way. With the advance in basic communication technology that we have now there is an arbitrarily large (not technically infinite, but for most that is a matter of semantics) supply of anything that can be encoded as 1s and 0s, i.e. information. There is supply to meet any demand so there is no cost, hence information is free. You are correct in thinking that copyright is a means of ordering production. In the past when only 'publishers' who had large amounts of money could distribute this information was it a valid means of ordering this production. now that we have the internet it is no longer valid. This creates a setting for drastic changes in our society, i.e. the information age, which we are now just entering. Capitlism will survive, but only applied to goods with a limited supply (i.e. real estate). When you start thinking of how many business entities rely on a 'limited' supply of information, you will begin to understand the magnitude of the changes about to take place in the next century.
I cant think of any modern scientist that would try to patent his ideas. This did happen in early renissance (sp? its late) history in mathematics. Eventually these assholes died (some had some great advancements like an algebraic solution to the cubic, etc.) and people that enjoyed mathematics for its beauty prevailed.
Im glad to see that someone else in the world understands that copyrights and patents are bullshit.
Yes more lawsuits, and more lawsuits. Clog the courts and then when they are so busy they can do nothing we can just forget about the copyright crap. I really hope Metallica goes after all 300,000 users (or the users go after metallica) in the courts. No jusidiction can handle that many lawsuits and maybe the supreme court would react wisely and see that copyright is completely unenforcable and forget about it.
Thats a real dumb troll. BTW Catholic Priests invalidate their vows if they talk outside of confession.
isnt idiotic hate speach protected as long as it doesnt make threats. I think libel has to be against a specific person.
IANAL but I thought truth was a defense in libel cases no matter what.
gui came from Xerox PARC

or they just cut the lines and laugh

I get music, book, etc recommendations from other people or from radio stations etc. I think quality stuff will rise to the surface no matter what.

until one person buys the damn thing, cuts and pastes it into one document and puts it on freenet.

No, no, you don't understand. Information IS ALREADY free.
Nothing. I dont think the ideas of copyright are valid anymore.

Truth is a defense and I think many internet experts could be found who agree that AOL sucks
