    Hmmm ...

    That's a common thought that I belive to be right but irrelevant.
    Every computer item you buy now for an insane price will be available and better and cheaper in 1 year's time. But in 1 year, you can say the exact same thing, keeping posponing the purchase infinitly, which isn't any good.

    It's easy when you have to show a (pre) design to a client. However, normal portables do that too, so no reason to buy this yet.

    But ANY portable comes in handy for a webdesigner, believe me. You don't want to show your website developed for 800x600 screens on some clients computer which can only handle 640x480, been there, done that.

    Now they can actually bring out electronic books which you can read in your bed. You even have the same lay-out (2 pages at once) ...

    However, you'd have to hold it. For some uses this is better, but for others, the conventional positioning is much easier.

    We'll see what it gives, I guess.

    In that case, yes, that's to bad.

    But in case of a hostile takeover (where this is possible) the original owners decided to sell out more than 50% of there shares to others long before the takeover, so that's there own problem.

    In this case, it's our ptoblem too :(

    It could indeed.

    But then again, if some Big Shot at microsoft gets the idea to buy out (or challenge) for example Ferrari in Formula1 race, that's possible too. And, they would probably put enough money on the table to get there logo on the Ferrari cars, ...
    That's the problem with big companies, they don't always have the best product, but the (better) competition just doesn't satnd a chance :(

    To get back to Adobe, let's just hope Adobe stays Adobe :)

    I'd have to agree to you.
    We have been developing in ASP, PHP, JSP and ColdFusion now, and to be honest, ColdFusion gave us the most problems. Second in place was JSP, for the interested people :-)

    Still, the share holders have to sell, even with hostile takeovers. If there are enough share holders who don't want to, then MS can stand upside down for all they care.
    However, I have no idea wheter or not the founders of Macromedia still own enough shares of there companie to have majority of the votes (if MS would buy all the rest of them) ...

    Try out TextPad. About the same as your homesite, only better :-)
    It can offer you the same 'insert some html tag here' functionality. Or you can just use it as a texteditor with replace function &nd line numbers, which is the best use, I think.

    I use textpad, their site.
    I'd have to agree that Dreamweaver (MX or not, doesn't really matter) is the best WYSIWYG editor available, but still, give me an editor with linenumbers and I'm happy (I used notepad for a while, btu was missing the linenumbers :-))

    Adobe is not only superiour for there PDF format.

    As you mentioned, the graphical tools MS created use Photoshop plugins, as this is the current standard. Still, the original Adobe Photoshop is better than any other graphics tool ...

    First of all, the windows platform is not highly valued by graphics power users. Try mac for that.
    Second of all, if you have to use PC, use and Adobe product, not a macromedia one ...

    I'm wondering.

    The I-Motion service mentioned in the second article is a video on demand service. What videos would users demand ?

    The next paragraph tells us that 100K was the maximum size until now, which results to about 15 seconds of video. The new MP4 standard would allow around 400K or 45 seconds.

    You might be able to download a weather report as a video, or the finish of an important car race or something, but I don't see the point of 45 seconds moveis. It's not like you can watch the newest movei on your cellphone (not that I want to) or the news (since that's a little to long) ...

    I think you HAVE to have a way to link people directly to your site. Like on folders, or business cards.

    Going via the searchengine is time consuming (unless you're looking for sites that hit on searchengines around place 1 or 2) ...

    If I'm looking for a Belgian company, the first thing I still do is type www.company.be (or .com for international business). And even now, most of the time you already found what is needed. That didn't change alot lately.

    A solution to squatters could be that you tax sales of domains (like when going from one company to another, you have to pay 300$ to the registrar) that way, people selling domains will see a cut in there profit (or they'd have to raise their prices, which results in less customers for the same profit, which is the same result).

    Our country code (.be) used to be very regulated (company name, almost nothing else was allowed). But lots of sites could not register a domainname this way.

    For example a site from an individual could only have a domainname with the individuals name, which is stupid.

    The domainnames are free now, anyone can buy/sell any domain they want, but you can still go to court when some squatter took over your registered business name. This system works quite well ...

    The machine was the fourth computer to be built anywhere in the world, ran at 0.001MHz, and had a massive 2000 bytes of memory and a behemothic 2500 bytes of storage.
    And it's still running, now safe in the Melbourne Museum, in Australia.
