    should also mention Cinnamon, while great on more recent machines, is a pig for very old processors and limited memory (1GB or less). use xfce4 instead.

    If you have to worry about 32 bit PAE not being supported probably Linux Mint (or Ubuntu for that matter) is not for you, too resource intensive in default install.

    Linux Mint Debian 32 bit has the non-PAE (486) kernel by default; in fact if you want SMP or PAE you have to apt-get install the i686 kernel

    also should mention my employer actually will buy the device for the employee, it is the employee's property and yet they pay the bill each month, HOWEVER note the agreement the company can wipe the device upon termination, theft of device or any other reason.

    you have some misconceptions. Enterprise software can manage the access of data on the device: requiring device have password lock, separation of client and company data, wiping of the device by the company if stolen (yes, employees made to sign agreement). All this can be done on Android, iPhone, Blackberrry

    despite all of opera's hype about a claimed 100+ million users, the real stats from any huge website will tell a different tale: IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari dominate the hits, while opera is something like 0.5% That's still impressive, to be there at all, but it's kind of like a Linux desktop. small pressence in the world of webdom
