From what i remember from the old "Yellowbox, bluebox" thing, theoretically, carbon was a feature in bluebox (aka, PPC specific) while Yellowbox required carbon. If apple plans on ever making the opportunity to run OSX on intel compatable hardware at some point (which is at least a possibility, if even a remote one) I feel that moving to Cocoa is probably the better idea in the long run.
