So, a third of the source code was stolen, and a game that was already delayed until somewhere around Christmas is now delayed until april 2004?
Is nobody's BS filter going off here?
Any company this large has all kinds of backups. Any company this large that can be set back four months by a 'loss' of one-third of the source code, which at worst should be one day's loss of work (to the most recent backup) is asking for trouble.
We'll get complicated techincal and/or BS explanations for it, but in the end, they don't want to look like a bunch of losers for having to push their game out another few months.
Look at Thief 3. That was supposed to come out last fall, and it's now not due till next year sometime.
The 'terrorist' scares we're so used to now and the propaganda we're used to hearing might make this kind of excuse seem probable to most- I don't buy it. Bunk economy, pipe-dream graphics performance, why not push it out to next fall? Shall we start a betting pool?
Just about zero details on the guy's work, and the 'terrorist' keyword thrown in there for effect, and some comments from worried pencil-pushers. That is to say: "A guy has made a thing; you the reader should be afraid; and some mucky-muck who was pals with Bush and got appointed head of one of our new plethora of ridiculous security offices says it's true."
Feels like I'm watching Fox news. I wonder how far news can stray from having actual content before we create an alternate reality, where much of our population is no longer in contact with reality at all.
I'd rather see a mobile with private wireless domain-like abilities... enter your friends cell phone numbers and anytime they're in range (ding! think MSN messenger), you can use the phone like a walkie talkie or a NIC card. Put me at the top of the royalties list for that one when it comes out.
I suspect that would follow as hacks to the ptp networking in these new phones...
I can't speak for Korea, but in Japan the situation is no different for a startup broadband isp. Distribution of access might be better, but check out Professor Collins' post, below. NTT's blatant monopoly and unabashed abuse of power makes ATT's actions here seem insignifigant. The dot-com boom never happened in Japan. Can you guess (one of the major reasons) why?
For more info on Japan and NTT, look for Tim Clark's "Japan Internet Report".
Right on!

NYEAH.
Hmm.

Oh, wait... that's already here, isn't it?

Security? Bah! Who needs it?
With technology turning an ever more-sharply-focused light on that previously ineffable thing within us all...
...who will be so foolish as to imply the ones around them are the ones with the problems?
As we get to know the true nature of humankind better, the misanthropist club seems to be getting a lot of new members.
If you think of a mobile phone as a social experiment, don't forget- they kill the control rats at the end of the study, too.
