That may be true for current touch screens. But new interface technologies are going to change all that. Soon, you'll be able to use hand and/or finger gestures to control a sharp point on the screen
Or you could just plug a USB mouse into an Android tablet and live the future now.
Let us know when you successfully run the largest software company on the planet.
You'd have to get past Tim and Larry first.
Google Passes Microsoft’s Market Value as PC Loses to Web
Google Inc. (GOOG) has surpassed Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) to become the world’s second-largest technology company as computing over the Internet reduces demand for software installed on desktop machines.
One of my teachers in high school brought boxes of punchcards to class and taught us how to read them. We each got a few hundred blank cards each and used the points of our compasses to "write" our first programs (I did a Fibonacci sequencer).
All of the punched cards were taken to the University, which promptly (actually a few weeks later) sent us back a sheet of paper each, explaining why our programs couldn't be run...
A few were allowed to correct their code and have it loaded and run on an actual computer (I think it was a CDC Cyber), including my Fibonacci program. Several weeks after my compass point touched its first chad, I received a fanfold page with the first 20 numbers of the Fibonacci sequence printed on it. I was hooked.
Really? Well since you liked it so much, here's another one:
5 Reasons why the iPhone 5 is idiot bait So, why are we buying an iPhone 5? mmm let me think. Oh, I know: we’re buying an iPhone 5 because that’s what people like us do. We buy the iPhone 5 because it’s the iPhone 5.
Owning one is an admission that you are sucker. That you are vulnerable to ‘peer pressure’ and ‘peer permission’. That all of the marketing world’s little tricks of the trade work effectively on you. That you are ‘target market’. That you can be manipulated at will by any corporation willing to invest the time and energy to do so.
Here's another story that didn't hit the front page:
Apple stock spanked for low iPhone 5 sales Only days after Apple (AAPL) began to put its new iPhone 5 into customers' hands, the company's stock has taken a beating. The reason doesn't have to do with Apple's disappointing mapping software, or even the reports of new iPhones being damaged right out of the box.
Instead, investors have expressed disappointment in how many iPhone 5 units sold in the first weekend.
AliExpress is an escrow agent and market, somewhat like an eBay for factories. You don't buy from them, you buy from the vendors who use AliExpress to sell their products.
I linked to a vendor I found while searching for "lowest-priced Android tablet" which was what OP claimed the Nexus 7 was. I have bought many tablets successfully from other more reputable vendors selling in the same market.
You are welcome to spend more money for the same product in Dealextreme. I used to.
No they're not. They're effective little machines for the price.
I have distributed dozens of them, and with few exceptions they're all well-loved tools or toys, being used for communicating with Skype and Gtalk, auditing & inspection, as mobile manual repositories and for watching movies on flight.
No, NBNCo is an Australian government organisation tasked with renting state-owned infrastructure out to private companies who can make money from it. What do you think they should do? Give it away?
Perhaps if you were to Google it before worrying about "granting monopolies, you could have avoided looking very foolish. The NBN is an INFRASTRUCTURE project, along the lines of a replacement for the existing copper wires.
There will be many ISPs offering plans on the NBN backbone. No government granted monopolies.
I'll reserve judgement on what's actually happened, because this industry has a history of salamitaktic, lying, cover-ups and manipulation of public opinion.
It's possible this innocuous announcement is the start of a series of press-releases, each admitting to progressively worse problems. If that's the case, all the Pollyannas on Slashdot will have vanished by the time the real scope of the event is clear.
Faience isn't really a ceramic anyway. It's silica fused with salts, more like a high-temperature cement or concrete.
It's never really been lost either, plenty of hobbyists still play with it, and you can buy it from art suppliers. It's not an ideal structural material, and is hard to work, but printing with it may reduce those limitations.
10" ARM Android netbooks are retailing from $100-150 in China, so I'd say Google have a bit of room to earn money on their Chromebooks.
Until you unplug it and use it like a tablet.

Sigh...

Computing is a little more immediate these days.

And right on cue a typical Slashdot stunned mullet has taken the inflammatory clickbait hook, line and sinker.
Sadly, this sort of mindless response will encourage the "editors" to frontpage ad-grabbing garbage instead or interesting articles.
Almost.
They'll hold your hard work hostage in the guise of proprietary application and data formats instead.
voice calls are all routed through Skype
They're already routed through VOIP.
Imagine how upset I was with my Amiga...

Are you kidding?
You could buy four AllWinner tablets for the price of one Nexus 7. The SoCs are selling for less than $10 in volume.

The other 29% is to take away control of the music and movies you've bought.
Since it also makes it far more sensible for viewers to choose content that does not interact with that 29%, it's essentially making itself redundant.

I don't think you understand what a uranium mine is.
Please do a Google image search for "uranium mine", then reconsider what you've just posted.

Any Australian will tell you that Albert is the most evil of all puddings.
Open Office won't open them.
Try Libre Office again. I think Word for Mac formats were added to the import filter in June or July.
